RainCamp Atlanta Recap! Ahh, Could Someone Pass Me A Towel?

Ok. Let's get a couple things straight right off the bat here. I love Active Rain. I would not be where I am today if it were not for Active Rain, my blog, what I've learned from my friends here, and the various events I've attended as a result.

Secondly, if you don't have information overload after a RainCamp, then you are obviously operating with a much bigger hard drive than I am. (Wait...that could be taken the wrong way....) Ok, I had SO much information overload after listening to Ben Kinney and Bob Stewart at RainCamp Charlotte, that I had not even PRINTED OR LOOKED AT MY NOTES from that brain-burning event. But, hey, I'm a sucker for stuff, and knowledge and websites and gizmos...so of course I was right there! But, I had my notes saved on Mr. Gateway, and got to fill in where I missed things in Charlotte, and of course, got new stuff too. Yowzer Yowzer!!

RainCamp Atlanta 2010So, every good real estate social media/blogging/traning event starts with a pre party, right? Duh! Well, Hotlanta did not live up to it's name on Tuesday night, but that did not stop a few of the brave Rainers (is that what we are called by the way??) from heading out to Gordon Biersch to join me and my ever so famous business partner and actor-to-be, Ray Benitez for some good beer, great pizza and the start of awesome new friendships! Of course, the Active Rain Team of  Bob and Company were on hand to welcome the students! I suspected it would be more "out-of-towners" than locals, but I was pleasantly surprized to meet up with Jen Bowman, and Jackye Mumphrey! Then came my new found Active Rainers and future referral partners, June and Bob Tassillo from Franklin, NC; Jami and Erica from Jacksonville, FL; Dwight Carson and Danielle Nicolayev from NC and Nick Pappas from Madison, AL! Sorry I could not warm up the ATL for you all...but I think things got pretty hot come Wednesday morning!

And so RainCamp began.....(I checked in a bit late due to a doctor's appointment....please to report that all is well with the little skin stuff that the sun has brought upon me...) But, after years of commenting, and reading....I had the best....getting to finally meet both Richard Weisser and Tammy Lankford! They live on opposites sides of Atlanta from me...and we got the IRL I've been waiting for! Thanks for the hugs both of you! Also a shout out to Michelle Francis and Jolana Roberts...some new Atlanta peeps! Yeah...and Lane Bailey, Patty Keller, Ann Allen. Kathy Nielsen....and if I forgot anyone...well Geez!

So, everyone wants take aways! I'll have to spread those out...there is just no way I can overload you all with all this stuff....but let's pull out a few choice morsels for you...

  • 32% of Consumers found their home online. Without traffic, your website is like a billboard in the desert. We need to buckle down and get us some traffic!
  • Write about all the stuff that IS NOT REAL ESTATE! Sell the lifestyle of living at Viewpoint Condominiums or shopping at Farmer's Markets in St. John's County!
  • If your domain name is not "seasoned" (no, I don't mean salt and pepper) then register it for a longer period of time. (You aren't planning to go anywhere anyway, are you?)
  • Facebook -- Create Fan Pages, NOT your personal profile. But again, it's not all about real estate, but the lifestyle and the area you want to be known for!

I think one of the bigger take-aways are the friendships and realationships I (or you) make at these events. I know I can call on my new friends for advise, help, or a laugh when I need it.  Lord knows, in these trying times we can all use a friend! (And yes, you'll get the same in return!)

Thanks Mr. Bob, Active Rain and the team for coming to Atlanta. But let me caution those of  you that might "wait for a Camp in your neighborhood..." A word of advice....DON'T WAIT!  Maybe there are not enough Rainers in your immediate area for AR to host an event. So, the next time you hear Camp is close by, pack your laptop, pack your bag, pack your umbrella, load up the truck and grab a towel....cuz......

You Will Get Wet

I was all market reports all the time and then I attended a few raincamps and participated in some local event contests.  I found that when I open up a bit (I don't like giving my private life away for reasons) I find that consumer response is overwhelming!
