Hi all, This is my first blog and I apologize if I'm not using this correctly.  Does anyone know the preferred phone operating system for using email, phone, Top Produder, Supra?  Both phones seem to provide the same benefits but I'm not sure which I should buy for ease of use and compatability with all of the software we need to run our businesses.

Thank you for all of your help.

Hi Jojo,

With your experience you already have systems in place.  All the new gadgets do is to allow you to access data faster -- IF you input the data correctly and IF you back your data up.

Top Producer is a great product.  And it is $$$$.  If you have a good email program and a spread sheet you can do well with any phone that can receive text.

Choose your phone based not on features but on reliability, talk time and coverage.

My phone is a quad band Motrola Vseries because I can attach an external antenna to it and travel all over the world.

Choose your camera based on the kind of photos you will need.  I use a Nikon D-50 with photo shop elements to do all photos - including full page color ads.

Supra may be getting a run for their money by REALTOR owned Sentrilock.

With all of this said many of the agents in my office have opted for the Treo.  They also have hot sync cables on all of their computers.

thank you John.  sometimes i can't see the forest for the trees, and missed the reliability, talk time and coverage.

what i was concerned with (and still am) is the Operating System; one is the Palm O/S and the other is Windows O/S for the same phone.

thanks again

I use the Palm OS and sync it to Outlook.

I have had several friends who went to the Pocket PC (Windows only to come back to Palm.

I dumped Top Producer.  Too many bugs in the software and not very productive.  For tracking my transactions I found it quicker and easier to create Excel templates.

For flyers etc.  I felt I could make better stuff with Word or Publisher.

We have the Treo 650 model and use it mainly for downloading email on the run and also we use Verizon cell service as they have better coverage for us in our marketplace.

I still have TP6i but find myself not using it as much anymore since I sync all my data into Outlook and all my clients contact information reside there.

I didn't upgrade to 7i because I am getting tired of everything going to monthly fees. I bought TP about 12 yrs.ago and it has done me well.

The smartphone is on a much more proven and reliable operating platform than windows. Although, some smartphones can have problems. Good luck and keep researching.

I usually visit cnet.com and read the reviews they have there.

Best of luck Jay

We use the palm platform and love it. This is a great phone. You can down load from top producer 7i and it will unlock the Supra. It also works with the MLS in many areas. For that you should check with your board.

Hi Jojo,

no worry the OS.  Each works well.  Palm has less bugs but is different if you are used to Windows.  Palm takes less space in memory.  Palm has been around for many years,  however MSFT is slowly taking market share -- not in my opinion because it is better, but because folks are used to using it on their PCs.  No phone is going to approach the performance of a PC.

suggestion:  if  you are going to be a road warrior use a portable PC with a special card that taps into the cell phone network.  I have seen Sprint advertise for about $50/month and the down load speeds are good!  Some of the plans I have seen give the card to you for free.

I made the decision not to use the internet and e-mail on my Treo.  The screen is to small and I receive way too many e-mails from multiple e-mail accounts.

I have the Sprint card and carry my laptop.  I have found it to be a better combination.  I use Outlokk so all of my e-mail addresses go to one InBox.

Quick note.  TP7i corrupted my Treo and caused a lot of problems.  I am so glad to be done with TP.

Hey Jo,

Thanks for inviting me to ActiveRain.  My next tech upgrade will be the verizon card for my laptop.  Actually you would be suprised how many people leave their wireless network open.  I have used my laptop & the MLS at many a driveway!!!  But the card for the laptop and leave the cell for calls!!

I realize you posted this a while ago but I can say that I wish I used the Palm version of the Treo as opposed to the Windows version... there are some things that I could do with Palm that I can't with Windows.

thanks, it's a year old, and it was my first blog.  i bought a new computer with vista on it a couple of months ago, and had to take my palm/ekey off the computer; so i am glad i didn't go with the phone too, it probably wouldn't work either.

I'm going to have to start yelling out of the car, i'm going backwards with technology.  i did hear the palm was much better than windows.
