Located at 8515 Old Mount Vernon Road in Alexandria VA 22309,Mount Vernon High School belongs to the Fairfax County Public Schools system that was founded in 1939. Mount Vernon High School was named after George Washington’s estate – Mount Vernon and nicknamed ‘Majors’ after George Washington and his half brother Lawrence Washington when they had served as Adjunct of Virginia Colony in the rank of Major in red uniform. ThereforeMount Vernon High School proudly wears their school color of maroon and gray.
