A lot of real estate agents in slow times will sit back wringing their hands that there is no work!  How foolish!  When we are busy in real estate there is never enough hours in the day to catch up on all the products we'd love to have.  When we are busy, we sometimes wish we could clone ourselves to make up for lost time, and maintain our productivity levels.   Well guess what?  It is slow enough now to all of that and more.  What a great time to figure out unique marketing strategies, plan for next year, clean up our websites and contact lists, update our address books and databases, go out and do more networking and so much more!  It is better to do something productive than it is in bemoaning your plight.  When your desk is cleaned off, and projects are completed, there is positive affirmations to your self esteem.  Besides it is practical, and productive.  Sow What are you doing to stay productive in this market downturn?

Thanks for your consistent in-site!  I love reading your blogs!  Now is the time to market more, not less.

Great reminder Jim!  I am revising my website, setting up a private (outside ActiveRain) blog, designing mailers, working on my newsletter, taking some classes to prepare for my broker's license exam, and calling all my past clients to make sure they remember who I am!  If I just sit and worry, it doesn't help at all!

Hi Jim,

We just started a group in our office called "Monday Morning Motivation" which consists of 11 agents.  It is set up so that the less experienced agents are teamed up with the more experienced agents.  Everyone is committed to showing up on Monday morning for the next six weeks.  The purpose of the group is to motivate and encourage one another, share information, set and achieve goals and be more productive.  The market is pretty challenging here and the morale in the office has been very low.  We met for the first time this Monday and everyone is excited.

We have 3 short term goals of our choice to be achieved by next Monday and 3 long term goals to be achieved by October 15.

Michelle I love this idea!  ""Monday Morning Motivation" This is a great way to ensure success through accountability.  "The purpose of the group is to motivate and encourage one another, share information, set and achieve goals and be more productive."  I also wrote an article years ago about siomething similar to this... Jim - I just started my real estate career last October after waiting 20 years...(had to raise the kids first!) and everybody told me it would be slow until spring. I spent my time organizing my office, getting all my systems in place and filling my data base and prospecting, prospecting, and prospecting!!

Boy, am I glad I did!  When I got busy in the spring I didn't have to backpedal to get everything done. It just all kind of fell in place!  This is a great time of year if you use it wisely!

Great post! It's a 5 and book-marked!

Linda thank you so much!  I took this slower year to get involved with blogging on www.ActiveRain.com!  I wanted to get into blogging a while ago, but I kept putting it off.  This year for sure I had no excuses, and I am very happy I did!

Jim - What you say is so true and very important.  Great post

Yes indeed this is the time to regroup and rethink.

Unfortunately some that don't have anything squirreled away are busy looking for a real job.

Jim ~ You are so right.  It seems that at my busiest time there was just never enough time in the day.  Now that I have time I need to focus on getting "back to the basics" which I know we all hear.  But it is the SIMPLE TRUTH right now.
