The good news, Columbus is on the list the Real Estate Bloggers  shared the next day:

                           It seems the boom markets of the ealy 2000's are softening and the markets you listed as safe didn't see the boom that the riskier markets did in price appreciation.

I wonder how the safe markets are doing in relation to inventory levles?

Allison: I have not seen the whole list have you? I wonder where Florida markets are on the list. And Michigan, MN, IL, lots of places... Caron Mosey has a blog on her Active Rain blog about Michigan not being on the list.

Jay:  My Market has lots of inventory..  had lots a year ago... more now.  That graph is only through September 2006, I will post October on my blog in a few days.  That is our whole MLS, so it includes rural areas...  My September Franklin County graph is broke... I should fix it.

Karen: May I call you KH? I am sorry Providence is there, on that list. 

KK: Isn't it funny how everyone looks at that list? The 10 Riskiest House Markets List?  Do they look for their city first on the 10 Safest House Markets List?  Caron Mosey did a blog on this too... she saw it on Real Estate Bloggers too...Caron just did the 10 Riskiest Housing Markets.  Someone oughta research the whole list with MI, CO, MN, IL, FL  etc. to see where they allstand statistically.  Yahoo!!!  Columbus Ohio is 6th safest in the US!!!  Cleveland, Cinci at 5 and 4 (I would have thought we'd be safer than either of them... what do I know?)

Do these rankings have an effect on sales? I know various publications rate “quality of life” of various metro areas, the best & worst colleges, among a whole range of “bests and worsts.” These rankings never mean much to me—but still I wonder what impact they actually have.

Yes you can call me KH if you like. I did look at all the lists, besides that list!   The funny thing is that Providence has already gone through a risky time, which is probably why banks are still charging the high PMI, however, Providence, lately has started to Revitalize as more investors have come in and rehabbed old buildings. I am not worried. Providence will prevail in the end.:)

You almost made my heart stop! Then I realized Cleveland was there for the safe list! Phew! Great way to grab attention, I commend you. 

BTW, we decided a new Ohio campaign needs to say Not The Rust Belt, The Water Belt, since our region doesn't have the same water supply issues other more popular regions do? Just a thought! Safe and full of water! :-)

Maureen, Didn't like the results posted. I still stand firm that it is an excellent time for buyers to purchase in the Sacramento area...many good deals are out there and in my estimation, if you are a buyer and still on the fence, you may just wait too long and fall off.

Columbus is safe?  Are you kidding me?  I wouldn't even consider Columbus until after the "Collision in Columbus".  The whole town may get torn up next weekend, either way.

Stefan, Stefan, Stefan....It won't be safe in town for people with Michigan license plates, people wearing maize and blue this week... or unfortunately couches or dumpsters in the OSU area.   They are doing commercials to the general public this week as well as the students in an effort to keep things calm before, after and during the game.

I saw a list recently that had to do with safety... like personal safety and it did not rate Columbus as a safe place to be. I thought at first when I clicked on this that it was that list.

Jay:  Who knows what all the crazy lists mean to buyers....they are blog fodder.  A client and I were trying to dissect the market he's coming from, and our market yesterday... I hope the 10 Safest list inspires buyers to buy.  I hope the 10 riskiest list is ignored for the sake of the agents in those markets.

St. Paul, and Mineapolis did not make any list this time.  Early in the year our metro area wason a list of the top 10 for a housing bubble.  We are not seeing it.

Well I'm glad to see Indianapolis is one of the safe places to buy seeing is that's my market.  We do have over 20,000 houses on the market according to MIBOR right now.

Sorry for the confusion, you had stated that the PMI US Market Risk Index came out back in September, and that it was hardly breaking news.  Knowing that you Ohioans are a little bit behind the times, I just wanted you to know that there was no need for you to apologize.  We all understand how it takes a while for news to spread to the backwaters of Ohio.  I guess maybe I was exaggerating a bit . . . I assume you have moved from the pony express (horses) on to trains and telegraphby now. :-)

As for college and law school, I am Michigan all the way--MSU undergrad and Michigan Law.  Are you prepared for the big game?

Oh...thanks sorry for being confused.

I think we probably have more up to date transportation here in Ohio than up in the boonies in Michigan.  

I have a blog entry in place on Active Rain for Beat Michigan Week but I want an Active Rainer who is really a Buckeye to step forward, as I am not a Buckeye...I woke up to Michigan jokes on the radio this A.M.

Wow I just found this blog...here is the question.

We live in Westerville, Ohio with a 20 yr old home, custom build, 3br 2.5 baths..2200? SQ ft first floor master. We are most likely moving to the intracoastal west area of Jacksonville, Florida. What is the market like comparing the two places?

I don't see the Jacksonville area on the list at all.  Are you interested in the value of homes in Jacksonville?  Or the relative risk / safety of the market?  I brought your comment to the attention of an Active Rain real estate blogger in Jacksonville.  Hopefully he will check in here with some info on the market there.
