34 Comments on Top 10 Riskiest Housing Markets - Fall 2006!
Whew! Our area is safe!
Maureen, this is perhaps one of the best posts I have come across lately. Short, sweet, informative, effective. It contains all of the right elements and accomplishes everything you want a good post to do. Great Job!
Maureen,
Columbus is safe? Are you kidding me? I wouldn't even consider Columbus until after the "Collision in Columbus". The whole town may get torn up next weekend, either way.
MF: Caron Mosey blogged about it too.. Hooray Michigan! Just about the 10 Riskiest, that your state is not on it...It was hard for me to comment on Hooray Michigan with this being "Beat Michigan Week" in Columbus... but I will be saying "Hooray Ohio!" on Saturday.
Rich: Thanks I confused Craig.
Gena: Sorry
Craig: Sorry. I made Safest bold. Help?
Maybe SAFEST....
Who has seen the whole list? I want to know where other markets are...Detroit, FL markets, MN, Chicago...Omaha Nebraska.... but I am too lazy to research it because Columbus, Cinci and Cleveland are SAFEST!
Stefan, Stefan, Stefan....It won't be safe in town for people with Michigan license plates, people wearing maize and blue this week... or unfortunately couches or dumpsters in the OSU area. They are doing commercials to the general public this week as well as the students in an effort to keep things calm before, after and during the game.
I saw a list recently that had to do with safety... like personal safety and it did not rate Columbus as a safe place to be. I thought at first when I clicked on this that it was that list.
Jay: Who knows what all the crazy lists mean to buyers....they are blog fodder. A client and I were trying to dissect the market he's coming from, and our market yesterday... I hope the 10 Safest list inspires buyers to buy. I hope the 10 riskiest list is ignored for the sake of the agents in those markets.
For those markets not on the two lists... where you fall in relation to the two lists.

This came out back in September... hardly breaking news....
Maureen,
No need for an apology. We know it takes time for the horses to make their way to Columbus.
Stefan, I consulted with some Michiganders about what " No need for an apology. We know it takes time for the horses to make their way to Columbus." means in the context of the comments but they seem perplexed as well. They say it is not Mittenese.
Where did you go to college and law school???
Maureen,
Sorry for the confusion, you had stated that the PMI US Market Risk Index came out back in September, and that it was hardly breaking news. Knowing that you Ohioans are a little bit behind the times, I just wanted you to know that there was no need for you to apologize. We all understand how it takes a while for news to spread to the backwaters of Ohio. I guess maybe I was exaggerating a bit . . . I assume you have moved from the pony express (horses) on to trains and telegraphby now. :-)
As for college and law school, I am Michigan all the way--MSU undergrad and Michigan Law. Are you prepared for the big game?
Oh...thanks sorry for being confused.
I think we probably have more up to date transportation here in Ohio than up in the boonies in Michigan.
I have a blog entry in place on Active Rain for Beat Michigan Week but I want an Active Rainer who is really a Buckeye to step forward, as I am not a Buckeye...I woke up to Michigan jokes on the radio this A.M.
I take umbrage at your assertion that you have more up to date transportation in Ohio. Please. Last I checked the Big 3 are not headquartered in Ohio...
Though you have a better blog for this, I must leave you an "M GO BLUE!"
Wow I just found this blog...here is the question.
We live in Westerville, Ohio with a 20 yr old home, custom build, 3br 2.5 baths..2200? SQ ft first floor master. We are most likely moving to the intracoastal west area of Jacksonville, Florida. What is the market like comparing the two places?
Dee,
I don't see the Jacksonville area on the list at all. Are you interested in the value of homes in Jacksonville? Or the relative risk / safety of the market? I brought your comment to the attention of an Active Rain real estate blogger in Jacksonville. Hopefully he will check in here with some info on the market there.
Do you want a market analysis of your home, call me 825-8842 or email me with the subdivision, style (two story with a first floor master?)
Hi Dee,
My name is Tim Fennell. My wife, Susan, and I work in the Jacksonville market and would be happy to assist you with any questions you may have about the market which, while not nearly as strong as it was a year ago, is pretty steady now and appears to be turning around.
The Intracoastal West area has been and continues to be one of the better markets in the city.
