Wende,
It looks like a beautiful day to put the old shell in the water. :)
Steve
Is this view from your home or office? It's beautiful. I always wish I had got into rowing, excellent workout
Michael, it's from a bridge where I was watching the race - that's my daughter's boat.
Wende,
Was this in Redwood Shores? I take my dog dock diving there and frequently see teams of crew.
Wendy,
I recently read an article in Sports illustrated about Jill Costello, coxswain for the Cal Berkeley crew. It is an inspiring story about Jill's fight against cancer and her crew teammates. Your picture reminded me of the story and Jill's fight. Quite a story about Jill as well as the culture of the sport.
Mel
Mel, Jill remains an incredible inspiration to so many, and her Jog for Jill fundraising will make a difference in the lives of many more people. I am sorry that I didn't ever get to meet her. A couple of agents in my office did, and one of my daughter's crew team alums was on her team at Cal. And it certainly is an amazing sport.
David - Yes, it's a growing sport in high school, though some of the colleges are now cutting it from their programs because it's expensive and not a spectator sport, so doesn't bring in any money. There are masters programs around for those of us who "missed the boat" (sorry, pun intended) in high school. They might have one out of the Lake Merced boat house, if you're interested.
