Sell a Home in Canton, MA - Buy a Home in Canton, MA - Live in Canton, MA

Remember when you were in high school? It seemed like your parents were always telling you a whole litany of things you needed to do. "Clean up your room," "hang up your clothes," "put away your bike," "take out the trash," "hang up your wet towel," "put away the milk." What phrase do you remember most from that time in your life?
Home repairs
The thing is, Mom and Dad were just preparing you for when you would have to take care of your own home in Canton, MA. As a parent, I can see the value of having my kids do these things. As a Realtor®, I know homeowners benefit from taking regular care of their homes, too.

I'm not talking about the decorative things that people do for their own pleasure, like new cabinets, new flooring or countertops. Updating those things does put your home into a higher price bracket when it comes time to sell
. I'm referring to the things that some people overlook completely, either for the entire time they own the house or until something finally breaks down. It's called regular home maintenance.

Taking care of your home in Canton, MA on a regular, ongoing basis prevents more costly "emergency" repairs and lowers your energy bills. It also means that when you decide to sell your home, the buyer won't balk at having to repair and replace all the things that you should have been taking care of all along. Today's buyers are looking for homes that are "move in" ready.

Although many people are focused on the holidays, now is a perfect time to take a few hours and schedule some home maintenance. It can make the difference in how you spend your winter. Remember the terrible flooding in Massachusetts last April.
Clean out your gutters now before we get snow. When snow melts, or we have heavy rains, clogged gutters and downspouts prevent the water from moving away from your foundation. Add extensions to your downspouts to make sure the water will drain far from your house. Check to make sure your sump pump is cleaned out and working properly.

With temperatures dropping below freezing, this is the time to replace cracked or broken window panes. Whatever kind of heating system you have, you should have it checked periodically. If you have a forced hot air heating system (furnace) you should replace your filter.
FireplaceIf you have a working fireplace, have the chimney checked and cleaned by a professional chimney sweep. Ask these service providers to help you set up a schedule for ongoing maintenance.

Taking care of your home in Canton, MA will result in a more comfortable, safer place for you to live. When it comes time to sell your home, you won't hear the buyer say, "I'm not paying to take care of their deferred maintenance."

You are so right.  So many things happen to break in the winter due to the freezing and gutters.  These things are costly to repair and often a big inconvenience.

Hi, Kristen...winter is almost here and many people are not prepared. It's easier to deal with Spring and Summer sneaking up on you, but Winter requires some preparation and thought!

Thanks, Dan! Thanks for reading. I don't know what the weather is like in Eureka, but regularly scheduled maintenance happens even without the snow. :)

Right, Debbie...lots of big expenses for emergency repairs, which as we all know always happen on Friday night!

Thanks, Barbara...doesn't take much time to prepare your home, or hire someone to do a few key things.
