I've only eaten beets in a can....but we have eggplant (tempura style) and maui onions (sweet and don't make me tear up while cutting...not that I do too much of that either) but I love fresh veggies. Do you cook a lot?

Farmer's markets are wonderful places! Colorado has great peaches this time of year, and corn earlier in the year.  Rocky Ford canteloupe are from Colorado too.  The tomatoes in your photo look fabulous.

The local farmers markets are dwindling around my area, and oh how I miss them!   Nothing beats fresh produce being brought to the roadside by the people who tend to their crops and put so much of their heart and soul into their farms.  Nice photos Lenn.

There is nothing better than a tomato sandwich on bread with mayo!  Well...maybe fresh picked corn on the cob.  We have a couple small farm stands where it is the honor system as far as payment - small growers just put their stuff out and people leave money in a can.  Gotta love a small town.

Sally.  Yes.  I do cook a lot.  I love to cook.  Those beets were wonderful.  I scrubbed them, put them in a foil lined pan and baked them for an hour, then peeled them, sliced them and made Harvard Beets.  Fabulous.  Then I made a giant Macaroni Salad with whole wheat pasta, the fresh tomatoes, onions, green and red, and purple peppers chopped in it.  Then I called my Grandaughter and they came to eat every drop.  When I built my house, I extended the kitchen out 5 feet to get more room.  I love it.

David and Kristin. Do stop and enjoy the fresh bounty.  They will never be fresher than right out of the field.

Joanne.  Everything is fabulous.  Just chop and eat.

Joan.  They are, were.  They'll be back Saturday and I'll be back there.

Missy.  That's true.  It's sad when you know it's their last week.

Rick and Ines.  There were.

Kris.  That's why I always stop.  They're only out a short time of the year.  I wait for them every year.  I buy a lot of fruits and vegetables and these folks are wonderful to do this rather than just sell at the wholesale level.

Linda.  I used to stop at one of them in Calvert County MD.  Good stuff.   The folks pictured gather at the local Game Preserve location in a hugh parking lot and sell in individual stalls or right off the back of their pickup trucks.  There are usually about 10 of them there every week.  It's a treat.

Lenn, our farmstands are often in front of a house, with amazing tomatoes and other vegetables.  There's a tin can on the table- honor system.  I absolutely love the produce stands out here!  The little ones are often as good as the more organized stands.

Hi Lenn - I LOVE farmers' markets!  We have a terrific one here every Saturday morning with all kinds of wonderful fresh locally grown produce, breads, jams & jellies, and so much more.  I can't wait for it to start up each spring and I hate to see it end each late fall.  We also have farms and orchards that have their own stands out in front of their farms with whatever they grow out there, and little boxes or coffee cans to put your money in.  Love fresh foods like this.

Your macaroni salad sounds so yummy, and I'm so hungry right now...!!

Laurie.  We have the same thing when one gets deeply into the countryside.  Closer in, they are staffed, but usually open only a few hours a week.

Ann.  I just finished eating a giant acorn squash I purcchased Saturday a.m. at the Lovettsville Farmers Market.  What more can I say.  Love vetetables.  Love Farmers Markets.  Love squash.
