Sanford NC New Walmart The opening for the new Walmart Supercenter is scheduled for August 19th and the store looks almost finished from the outside. All the signs are up and there are cars in the parking lot of employees working inside almost every day.The current store looked quite empty when I stopped in today to pick up a few items. They have a sign by the exit door counting down the days to the opening of the new Sanford Walmart.
The sign for the new shopping center was installed a few days ago. No other store names have gone up on the sign yet but a lot of work is going on with the stores in the strip center next to the new Walmart. Shoppes-at-Sanford
Rue-21-Sanford-NC Last week I saw a sign go up on one of the stores in the new strip center. The website for Rue 21 shows a store focusing on clothing for teens and young adults. This store ought to be popular with our local high school crowd.
When I went into the center to take a picture of the Rue 21 sign, I saw this sign for Fantastic Sams. This is a chain of hair salons that offers moderate prices and they tend to be open convenient hours. Fantastic-Sams-Sanford-NC
Athletes-Foot-Sanford-NC I also saw this sign for the Athlete's Foot. These stores usually focus on shoes. We already have several shoe stores in town but it will be good to have another choice. It already looks like we will have some nice new shopping choices. There is a lot of activity going on inside other shops in the center and I will try to make updates when I hear about more stores.

Rita this is good information for local consumers.  I don't know about you but in my area New Walmart Shopping Center means an area of new growth.  That is always good for an area.  Its also good for shoppers like me!!!

Joanne,

I drive by this shopping center several times a day and enjoy checking out what is going on.  Once I saw the Rue 21 sign I had to go home and use Google to find out what it was.

Kimberly,

We are starting to see quite a bit of development in the area.  Our local officialsl asked Walmart to upgrade the facade with brick and required a certain number of trees to be planted.  I hope development is done in a way that maintains our small town charm.

Paula,

We have had a lack of shopping choices in the area so it is nice to see some development.  It would be great if more of our local money could stay within the community instead of being spent in Fayetteville, Cary, or Raleigh.

Rita, Now you can do all your shopping in one place. Word of advice: stay away for the first week if you can.

Mana,

We'll probably check out the new Walmart late at night the first week.  I am sure it will be a ZOO during the day the first week.

The other stores will probably be opening in the next few months - I am anxious to see what other stores we get.  Sanford could really use a nice bookstore - I have my fingers crossed for that.  They haven't started developing the outlots yet but we are hoping for a few more restaurants to add to our list of choices.

Rita, we just had a new Walmart open fairly close to us and I was eagerly awaiting not having to drive so far.  I love the one stop shopping.  It looks like things are hopping in Sanford!

Marchel,

It seems strange to be excited about a new Walmart but I now drive about 45 minutes a couple of times a month to go to the one in Spring Lake so this will save me some driving.  I am really looking forward to getting some other great shops in the strip center next door.

Stephanie,

As a real estate agent I feel I need to keep up with all the local development.  I hope as Sanford grows the development is done in a way to minimize impact.  We got some additional trees and landscaping with this development to break up all the pavement.  I also noticed that Walmart seems to be reducing the number of lights in their parking lots with the newer stores.  These big box developments can be tough on the surrounding environment so I hope we continue to learn ways to make them have less of an impact.

The last time Wal-Mart opened there was a grand opening party. It was CRAZY. Ferris wheels, funnel cakes everyone was there it was probably the biggest thing to come to Sanford.  The Mayor of Sanford needs to give you a key to the city you are doing a great job with this blog I hope it is bringing a lot of business your way.

Rebecca,

I don't think they plan a carnival for the opening this time around but a lot of people are talking about it and are excited.  I get several hits a day to my outside blog from people searching for information on the new Sanford Walmart.   Thanks for the compliment - I am trying to provide information to those moving to the area - Sanford has a lot to offer.

Rita- It is great that you keep up with all the info for the residents of your town! I am sure they just love reading your blog. I don't do Walmart. I am a Target lady and buy my groceries at Whole Foods. Katerina

Katerina,

I love Target but we don't have one yet (you can bet I will write about it when we do get one).  I need to do a follow-up to this post - several new stores have put up signs in the adjacent strip mall.
