I have taken "better" pictures but this one, Christmas 2007, captures my grandson Justin bouncing wildly on this blue ball, while my son Ted tries to keep him balanced and prevent him from falling off. Justin was laughing and Ted was too, in between attending to his mission.
This picture is so precious to me because this was the first time they had ever seen each other. When you have a small family, spread through-out the country, get togethers are memorable and cherished events.
When we were all living in New York State, my daughter, Laura, bestowed us with our first grandchild, Morgan. 10 years later, Justin was born. I live in the Midwest now and the few times per year I see my grandson doe not compare to my early Grandma days when Morgan was little. But Ted had never even met his nephew!
Boy, did they ever hit it off! They spent the weekend laughing and talking and playing together, as if Justin had grown up around his Uncle Ted. Ted always had scrapes and small bruises from running and falling and climbing when he was that age, just as Justin does in my Kodak Moment photo. We got our first inkling that Justin was an artist as Ted showed him how to draw simple shapes and Justin did an amazing job for a child of less than 2 years old.
Justin is in first grade now and draws every single day just as he Uncle did, starting at a very young age too. There was just something about seeing them together that made it obvious they had a lot in in common.
It was a lovely Chritmas for all of us in the family, and this photo creates a flood of memories which easily bring them back.
