The LSU Museum of Art the Louisiana State Archives are celebrating the Holiday season with exhibits showcasing antique and handmade toys.

LSU's exhibit runs through January 16, 2011 and features a small sampling of the Museum's extensive holdings of antique toys.  There is a rocking horse from 1870, numerous porcelain baby dolls and train sets on display.  LSU is conducting a toy drive in conjuction with this display.  You can bring in a new, unwrapped toy during the month of December for the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

The State Archives has gotten into the act as well with their own display of antique and handmade toys.  This collection features toys from the 1930's all the way up to toys that have been recently handcarved.

The toy display is in the State Archive building just past Gingerbread House.  The House stands 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide...and is made from plastic, but ingeniously painted to look like gingerbread.

You can get more information about this exhibit by calling 225.922.1208 or by clicking here.

Both exhibits are sure to bring back many, many childhood memories as we see toys that we actually had as kids growing up.
