Not wearing my glasses when checking my email... NOT a good idea.

I nearly deleted an important email this morning thinking it was spam.

The subject line read: You are now a member of the Be The Match Registry

Well the first thing that popped into my head was that I didn't register for any stupid dating site.  I'm head over heals in love with my husband.

But upon further investigation.... it's from the service where I've signed up to be a bone marrow doner.  I wrote about this a few weeks ago and many of you said it was NOT something you could do.

So I thought I'd give you an alternative to donating your marrow and a chance to still save a life....

You certainly can do these two things...

You can post to your own blog to spread the word.  Or cut and past the site info and email it to your SOI.

or

You can make a fincial gift, that could also potentially save a life.

I haven't donated blood in a while.  I need to pay more attention to when the next drive comes to town.  But I am a proud owner of my 8 gallon pin from the Red Cross and the other day I saw on the Macon News where a central Georgia woman and flown some where in the New England area to donate marrow.  She was so excited she got to save a life.  Maybe I'll have that chance too.

what a great Holiday post. I think this time of year when giving is king...yet folks do not have quite as much to give...this is a way to give way beyond dollars.

I agree with the previous post! This is the giving that outgives everything. I have a friend who just donated a kidney to his friend! He saved his friends life! They are all celebrating Christmas together this year! - David

I thought your original post was great and I think it's a good thing to remind people about registering for being a bone marrow donor.  You never know who missed the first post.

Jeffrey- I can't take all the credit... I was inspired by Elizabeth Weintraub, who blogged about her own commitment to donate and getting an email from them.  I thought it was a wonderful gesture and I'm certainly willing to save a life.

David- I have a dear friend who just has one kidney, for a while she wasn't sure if that one would make it.  I would have given her one of mine had I been a match if she needed it.  I'll say a prayer for your friend and his friend that they have a very blessed Christmas.

Liz- And I really before todays email was unaware of the monetary donation aspect for people who for some reason can not or are not willing to donate marrow.

Mark- My daughter couldn't believe it because I'm such a chicken when it comes to needles.  But for the right reason, I'll just suck it up.

Cindy- That's awesome, I hope he's doing well.  And it's so good he had a donor when he needed it.

Tammy, I don't know if I could Be The Match since I have MS, but I can certainly spread the word, as you requested.  Keep up the good work.  It's so very important, as you know.

Chris- I realize for a multitude of reasons people can't donate.  My husband can't donate blood because of the years and the countries he served in while in the Army.  We all have to help in the way that we can.

Tammy, that is really funny! I never delete emails I read on my Blackberry for that very reason, who can see, even with my glasses on!

Having said that.... I do respect you for what you are doing. Blood, bone marrow, very very good.

Howdy and evening to you Tammy

Tammy, that there sure is a mighty fine way to pay it back, by helping other folks. That's for sure! Plus you sure did a mighty nice thing, by adding those links for other folks that might not be able to be an actual doner, but can still help.

Have a good one

Michelle- I enjoyed meeting you too and I can see much without my glasses either.

Mary- Right now I am just registered... Eventually I hope to be able to say I was a donor

Hi Marie- was fantastic getting to meet you too.  And welcome for the links.

Dale- thanks and you have yourself a Merry Christmas too.

Roger- my daughter (who knows I'm a needle chicken) can't believe I registered, but I just have a feeling about it.  I do realize though some folks can't do that, so I found other ways.

Ron- I've been a registered organ donor for years.  I just never really thought about it until I read a post by Elizabeth.

Good suggestions to help others in need, Tammy.

As I was reading this I was listening to a request from the Salvation Army for household & clothing donations.  A few weeks ago my daughter & her husband filled their SUV gentlely used toys to donate after cleaning the kids rooms, etc.

We have so much and we need to remember those who don't.  Thanks for the reminder.
