Time certainly does seem to fly this time of year, and it seems to get worse the older we all get. Seems time creeps by for those young enough to be waiting on Santa Claus. Some times I wish things would slow down, but that's not the way things work.
My wife and I were discussing the possibility of watching one of our favorite holiday movies last night: “A Christmas Carol” starring George C. Scott as the cantankerous miser Ebeneezer Scrooge.
I remarked that we had just recently seen the movie. After a careful analysis, it turns out that “recently” was last Christmas, one year ago.
And although I know that is a fact, it seems like just a few month ago. The year whizzed by in a whirlwind.
When I was a child, the L O N G E S T period of the year was the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Time nearly stood still as we languished in the pervasive anticipation of the annual visit from Santa.
These days, the trickling sands of time are more like a torrent., The days pass on by like a NASCAR racer on the straightaway..
Last year’s “next year” is now this year! (Think about that.) All of the things that I said I would do for the holidays are inching more towards the back burner every day.
But that doesn’t matter so much anymore!
Because next year will be here in the blink of an eye!
