Paying it Forward: Practicing Random Couponing
Using coupons is a great way to save money. But we all have coupons in our possession that we may never use. Rather than let them go to waste, I try to find a good home for my unused coupons. I got this idea one day when I was in a store and there was a coupon tucked under a product that I wanted to purchase. Someone had it and had left it for some lucky shopper. That shopper was me and I try to remember that gesture when shopping.
This week, I had an $8 coupon from Target (pronounced Tar-Jay) that was good for any purchase of $80 or more. I only had socks in my cart...no where near the $80 requirement. The coupon expired the next day. There was a woman in front of me that had several things in her cart, one of which was a large electric car. I was sure that her total would be at least $80. I offered her my coupon and, after a few words to clear her confusion, she happily accepted the coupon.
As it turned out, the large car in her cart was destined as an Angel Tree present. It was a small gesture to offer her my coupon but it definitely made her smile. It made me smile to have saved her some money. We wished each other Merry Christmas and returned home, happily knowing that we both had done something nice for someone else that day.
