Blogging for $$_______________ 7 Guidlines For Your Real Estate Blog

IStock_000001627307XSmall WEBLOGWith blogging becoming all the rage in the real estate industry, many agents wonder what a blog should hope to accomplish. Here are some ideas to keep in mind of what a real estate blog should do.

1. The Blog's objective would be to help your readers with buying or selling a home. This might seem obvious but most Buyers and sellers are not always acquainted with what is ahead for them. The process you Blog about can be a step by step process or tips to follow that would make the buying or selling process more clear. It should provide counsel of the some potential pitfalls of buying and selling and what consumers should be aware of.

2. The Blog's other objective could also provide your past clients ways to enhance and enjoy ownership of their properties.

This might range  from upgrades and repairs to just ideas about living better. It would keep your readers appraised of local market values, changes and opportunities in your market. The Blog can serve perspective Buyers, Investors, potential Sellers as well as your past clients or all of these groups of consumers.

3. The Blog could also contain links throughout for useful information. The Blog doesn't have to be just original or unique content but always be sure to credit the source if it your are quoting from someone else's information.

4. The Blog might also anecdotally show your experience as a professional where the consumer might benefit from from your experiences. Stories sell.

5. The Blog is usually better when it is short and to the point while limited in scope. Very long articles will many times cause the reader to just scan over it and not really absorb the benefit. Most readers want to get to the point and move on.

6. The Blog is received best when it is updated several times a week if not daily. Your readers will increase if you post to your blog with some regularity. The point is to be consistent and reliable with what ever you plan to deliver. Gaps of times with no updating will cause many to lose interest.

7. If you are sharing links to outside sources be sure to configure the blog site so that the links open in a separate window, keeping your blog site visible.

All great tips William, I have a lot of work to do in that regards.  You've written many strong consumer related posts which is wonderful to share.  I could do a better job of this myself.

Hi Jason,

Many Thanks, although this one was written for the professional in mind. My consumer posts are  put on my personal blog, :-) and posted here on AR in localism.

William,

Solid instruction on how to make your blog successful. Sometimes we bloggers keep going and going with our writing and the post just grows waaaay too long and then we wonder why no one is reading it. The other thing is to update it several times a week to build continuity. It's hard work, but the rewards are there.

Bill, I try to blog at least twice a week, sometimes more, if I do market reports. I love it here, but I tend to get blogged down in commenting. :)

Hi Missy, Same here. I sometimes get so involved with commenting that hours pass and it is hard to get other things done. It's because we try to be supportive. Thanks for commenting here, I appreciate it.

Hi Paula, Me too. The learning curce when you get into all the fun stuff is amazing. I have learned alot and know more of what I need to know but I must say it is complex and for those lucky enough to have all the systems down, they are doing very well with it.

BILL:  Thanks for your advice on making the most out of your blogs.  One of the things that I've found is that frequency of blogs needs a balance so that there is time to people to read them.  A great way to help the balance is to put out localism posts.

Agreed. Short is a godsend. Easy to read, hard to write.
