27 Comments on FREE to a good home ...
Tammy - I'm not sure how it works in rural areas like that (I mean WAY more rural than mine) but here, Craigslists rocks when it comes to free stuff.
BLiz - that's why I ask for a name and phone number in my ads. I have found that if they will give that up, they will show up. The first time I used the FREE section was to find a home for a 12 foot indoor plant that was scraping my living room ceiling. Within an hour, it was on its way to a new home in a converted barn. Amazing.
Good and bad Craigslist's stories are appreciated. I wish they were all good...
You have a friend in Topeka, =]
Paul
Craigslist is great, but that was really impressive. Way to go above an beyond.
Paul - I have all good stories to tell about their FREE stuff category. Then I have a lot of bad stories to tell about rental scams, one of my listings included. From Toledo to Topeka? You get around!
Simon - I love putting FREE stuff on Craigslist. I even got rid of a Christmas tree stand this year ... in June!
Great job, Cynthia. Shame they couldn't sell the stuff, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Great job Cynthia! I've found FreeCycle.org to be pretty awesome as well.
Cynthia: You could almost put this on a "pay it forward." I've found the folks that come to pick up the more substantial freebies on CraigsList are those who would never be able to afford such things on their own. I'm also a fan of FreeCycle.
Jane - It seems that a lot of folks these days would rather give stuff away than go to the trouble of having a yard/garage sale.
Peggy - I have never heard of FreeCycle.org, I will check them out ... thanks!
Cece - These items were very nice and I know the folks that got it were thrilled. You are right, they probably could not have purchased them. Peggy mentioned FreeCycle as well, I had never heard of them.
Great job! Sometimes trying to sell items is too time consuming, you can get rid of things pretty quickly when it's free...Craigslist is great for that.
What a good idea, Cynthia! I like this a lot. I'm gonna swipe it now. Thanks.
Patricia - the free section of Craigslist is phenomenal in my area. Within 10 minutes of having a free item online, I have to go back to Craigslist and delete it, otherwise I'm inundated with e-mails that say please, please, please call ME ME ME. The nice thing about it is you remain anonymous until you choose who to call.
Elizabeth - LOL, swipe away!
We have a local site called 2good2toss.com
You have a friend in Washington State,
Paul
Me: Need a dedicated and committed real estate agent in Sonoma County
Buyer/Seller: Yes, do you know of anyone.
Me: Yes her name is Ssssssynthia Larsen.
Buyer/Seller: That's an awful lot of Sssssss's. What's up with that.
Me: She stutters when making suggestings, but you'll love her and she makes great suggestions. I'll give her your name and number and she'll probably call you within the hour.
Buyer/Seller: An hour. How about she caledl me within 15 minutes.
Me: That's my Califor?ia Connection. Good deal. I'm sure you'll be pleased.
Paul - 2good2toss sounds like a great name for a place to post things that are nice but just can't use anymore. I think you are safe with Washington State!
BDAMB - LOL, you are making my sides hurt!
BDAMB - $mart A$$ :)
Cynthia, That is a great idea. We also have several worthy non profit thrift stores here that would be glad to particiapte, now that you mention it.
Charles - you're right ... given more time, this would have made a great donation to the Salvation Army.
Cynthia, that's definitely in the category of exceptional real estate services. I don't think it would disappear that quickly in my neck of the woods, though I've never tried for a 1-3 hour window for pickup. Your clients probably thought you were magical.
Leah - they DID think I was magical. They said ... SERIOUS?????
