It seems like the holidays have just snuck up on me again. Sometimes it's difficult to "feel" all the winter holiday festivities when it's warm enough to go swimming, which so often happens when you live in sunny Palm Springs, California like I do. Mind you, I'm not complaining. I can still remember all the years of shoveling snow, wind whipping across my face and temperatures dipping below zero. Burr! I'm just glad I can sit out on my chaise lounge and glance up at the snow-capped mountains. That's close enough for me!
Yet the holidays and all the holiday festivities can be lots of fun, whether it's celebrated in the snow, or just laying in the sun. Have you noticed people seem to smile a lot more during the holidays? Most people are in a pretty good mood. Neighbors greet and invite each other in for a nice toddy or eggnog. Kids are thrilled because vacation is just around the corner, and merchants are hopeful for a good shopping season.
In spite of all the festivities at this time of year, there are many families struggling to make ends meet. There are many agencies struggling to keep their doors open in order to support their many good causes. At this time of year I would like to suggest that all those who have security and good health, try to dig a little deeper into your pocketbooks to help those less fortunate.
Another suggestion might be to ask each of your children to donate one of their favorite toys or games to a less fortunate family. This year shelters are over-flowing with families who have lost everything. Many shelters have children without any comforting toys to play with. Food pantries are also low on goods and would welcome your donations.
Let this holiday season be a time for us to "come together" to help one another. I like to call this "soul touching!"
Wishing you the very best this holiday season!
