Marilyn Howell shares some family history and a beautiful photograph of a lily at a family home. This is a good reminder for all of us to keep a camera at hand and capture the beauty of nature.

 Blooming for you!

Visiting my daughter and her husband at their home in the summer of 2009, the beautiful blooming lilies caught my eye.

The setting is in the yard of the home where my father grew up with his four older sisters who were born in the 1920's. The little white farm house is over a hundred years old and was recently restored for them to move in. Built by my grandfather who was born in the 1800's, my grandmother lived most of her life here in this home. My grandfather died before I was born, so he lived in stories and pictures.

The lilies were planted by my brother in 2007 where the grape vine used to grow. In May of 2009, my brother passed away suddenly. My brother had taken quite an interest in gardening the last few years of his life. We were able to enjoy sunflowers and some vegetables that he had planted earlier that year. He had also planted many daffodils and lilies that we still enjoy in the spring and summer months.

The lily blesses us with it's beauty and brings pleasant memories to mind. Often when I try to photograph flowers the wind will stir up and blurr my subject. So, the clarity of this photo pleases me. I also find it fascinating that much of the foliage we see is that of the grape vine and not of the lily. And a little tiny bug completes the photo!

Thank god for my Black Berry... I never seem to have a camera, but always my BB, and it takes a pretty decent picture!
