Light railroad in Tenafly, NJ?  Why not?  Unfortunately during the last Mayoral election, none of the candidates came out in favor of bringing the light rail into Tenafly.  This is very interesting because it can be statistically measured that the towns with passenger rail systems helping residents commute to larger cities are already beginning their recovery from the recent downturn in real estate values.

Jeffrey Otteau (used by Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and others) quantifies this through his extensive work with real estate statistics.  Living in New Jersey, I would guess he pays particular attention to this area and he has already noted a small percentage of recovery in towns with train commutes.

Unfortunately, there are some local misperceptions of increased traffic with more frequent stops for the trains to pass downtown (it will stop you just a bit longer than a traffic light); increased danger along the tracks (we already have a train that is much longer, heavier, and more dangerous going thru this town) and concern about parking for "outsiders" (a valid concern but there are already spots outlined for parking and permits which could be a revenue source for the town.)

Fall picture of Railroad station in downtown Tenafly now used as a restaurantInstalling the light railroad in Tenafly, NJ would help sustain our property values.  Between our strongly recommended school system, proximity to New York City and a 'green' method of transportation, such as the light railroad in Tenafly, NJ, our property values would be as strong as possible to withstand any future financial attacks.
