This year, Raleigh marks its 20th First Night New Year's Eve celebration.
"First Night Raleigh" New Year's Eve 2010
First Night Raleigh is a family-oriented festival celebrating community and The New Year through arts.
- Largest New Year's Eve event held in eastern North Carolina.
- Starts at 2:00 pm on December 31, 2010
- Culminates at midnight with the famous acorn drop countdown and fireworks.
Admission buttons are on sale now, and cost $9 if purchased in advance. If purchased at the festival, buttons cost $12 for adults and $10 for children 6-12 years old.
Events, shows, and interactive activities last all day, beginning with the Children's Celebration held from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Kids can participate in activities at the North Carolina Museum of History, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and on Bicentennial Plaza.
Make a firefly or star constellation, or watch acrobatic, aerial, juggling, or hoop dance performances.
From there, the People's Procession begins at 6:00 pm followed by an Early Countdown at 7:00. Other performances and activities last throughout the night until the acorn countdown.

- Giant Lite Brite: Adults can play games too! A Lite Brite board roughly 60 times bigger than the toy is available from 7:00 to 11:00
- Resolution Oak Tree: Add your New Year's resolution to the tree, from 7:00 to 11:00
- First Night Light Circus: A fire show from 8:00 to 11:00
- Gold Leaf Sleigh Rides: Ride on a horse-drawn sleigh around the Capitol, running from 8:00 to 11:00
