The photo you get, and the one you wish you had gotten...

The photo that got away was probably more interesting than the one I took.  I came out of the house, and was surprised to see a trace of snow on the car windows.  I was pretty sure my wife, who had left for work before sunrise, had not noticed the skiff of snow, and she told me later that she hadn't.  So I pulled out my phone and snapped a shot.

Sunrise and Snow

And IF I had noticed the sunrise reflection in the window, I would have returned to the house and grabbed my "real" camera to see what I could do with it.  It probably would have been more interesting than the skiff of snow.

Teresa Boardman recently posted her thought that great photos are all around us, if we would only see them.  I don't know if this could have been a great photo, but I think it could have been more than an accidental photo, if I had been alert.  Well, maybe alerter...

Now I will be stalking my car at sunrise looking for the one that got away.

I find the corollary in real estate work.  We are so focused, we often miss the fact that there is business all around us.

Fernando,

Thanks but that skiff of snow will be quite adequate for me to say we had a White Christmas!

Hope you enjoy yours!

Paula,

Snow, not so bad.  We are going through some icing this morning, and that is more of a concern.  I know you know what I mean, being in Rogers...

I took a photo Sunday that I take every Sunday...  and posted it to my Posterous and my WP blog wishing I could edit out the parking lot in front of the huge building under construction that I am documenting... but Posterous puts it up "as is."  I can go in and edit on both and I had to on my WP blog I was tempted to crop it... but lazy too.   A comment on my WP blog was about the reflection of the building on the wet pavement being neat was my first clue...

I never would have noticed the sunrise in your photo!  I am so NOT a photographer.  I have no wish to carry a camera around the fact that my phone has one makes me take the occasional photo.  Or at least one on Sunday morning.

Maureen,

I love this photo I have up on Flickr.

I like the light passing through the tree.  But there is the basketball backboard in the upper left corner that I didn't notice until I uploaded to my computer.  I don't see a cropping opportunity without diminishing the composition.

I don't have Photoshop, but this photo appears to be a perfect candidate for a little Photoshop work.

Great picture. I woke up, saw the snow, went back to bed. No school means no work for my hubby, so we both slept for another hour. I think the snow was prettier than the ice we have now.

Stay warm and safe!

Mike, I love it - the shape and color of the clouds is one of the things that makes this shot special.

Hi Mike, I first noticed the beautiful sky being reflected. What I like is that you stopped to take in that moment of the day enough to snap a picture and share. Very cool..now hope you didn't get any more snow then that.

June,

Yes, that obvious reflection surely surprised me later.  I'm glad we didn't ice up too much.  I worry more about ice storms than I do snow.

Cindy,

Thanks!  And, yes, that is sufficient annual snow for me.
