North Carolina and the Dreaded "Wintry Mix"

By
Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty

Well, here we are again in the frozen tundra of Apex North Carolina!  Many of us former Northerners have been complaining all week about the cold weather that we thought we had escaped.

Sad trees

For the last few days the "weather people" have been predicting a "wintry mix" for today. Meaning it could snow, sleet, rain, or hail. They've covered all the bases by calling it a wintry mix.

As usual, whenever something like this is predicted, everyone runs to the store to stock up on milk, bread, and eggs, like we're not going to see civilization again for months.

Then we wake up to hear the Wake County Schools are closed! The lack of snow fighting equipment here makes driving treacherous, so better to just stay home and act like true Southerners.  (we got used to this idea real fast the first year we moved here).

We started with a dusting of snow, then got the ice, now we're into the freezing rain. So the forecasters can claim they were right for a change.

So what do kids do when they're off of school?

Hmm, how about trying a bike ride in the slush?

How much damage did we have?  It's a good thing I took the cushions off this bench!

My lovely pink crepe myrtle tree will have to wait a few months to bloom again.

Don't worry about us though, this will all melt by tomorrow and we'll be out on the roads getting ready for the holidays again!!!!

Its pretty clear that the Carribean is the only place in teh East to escape cold weather, but then you have to deal with Hurricanes.

Hi Linda,  Enjoy your stay home day!  I thought we were supposed to get some winter (ie:snow) last night - but no, just freezing temps and it's still dry.  Stay warm and safe.:-)

Linda--I am glad that you not only survived the wintery mix, but took a few pictures & added some humor, too.  That shows that you are basically a hearty northerner.  LOL  Mary

Tom- It promises to be a tough winter here! Maybe I need to sell houses in the Carribean.

Mary- love the new picture!

Mary- well, once a Northerner, always a Northerner I guess.  Thanks for stopping in.
