Where is the best place to retire in the US? We'll, it's nice to know that I won't have to pack up and move when I am ready to retire. According to Portfolio.com, the Sarasota-Manatee market was named to the top of their list.
Six other Florida markets achieved a top ten spot.
- Sarasota-Manatee
- Prescott, AZ
- Lake Havasu City, AZ
- Cape Coral-Fort Myers
- Naples
- Palm Bay-Melbourne
- Homosassa Springs
- Ocala
- Punta Gorda
- Port St. Lucie
This isn't the first time Sarasota has been named a top place to live. In 2000, Money Magazine named Sarasota the "Best Place to Live" and in 2001 they named it as one of the "Best Small Cities to Live".
In 2006, Forbes Magazine named Sarasota a "best place to retire in the US" citing that Sarasota was the best city for single retirees. Sarasota is one of the few counties that sits among the top ten in America when you screen for singles (of both sexes) ages 55 to 74 who have an income of more than $200,000, according to Robert Katz of EASI Demographics, who crunched the numbers for FORTUNE.
There have been numerous other mentions of Sarasota in various publications regarding why Sarasota is such a great place to live, work and retire. For more information you can go to the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce website.
Here is some intersting data: The article stated that the Sarasota-Manatee market was made up of roughly 26% retirees, double that of other US cities. They also stated that 95% of the retirees came from out-of-state to retire here. Traditionally, 50% of a cities retiree population is from out-of-state.
It was nice to wake up to Sarasota being picked as a best place to retire in the US.
