Great news from Cleveland. com:
Planning Commission members granted approval Nov. 17, contingent upon engineeri
ng issues, for Mercy Hospital’s proposed 82,000-square-foot medical office building on 33 acres of land at 38399 Colorado Ave.
“We are excited for this project,” said Paul Sieben, a representative for Mercy.
Sieben, who said he did not yet have an estimate for the cost of construction, explained that the facility, which would employ a staff of approximately 75, will have physician offices, an ambulatory surgery center and provide diagnostic services.
He estimates it would take 50 to 100 workers approximately 12 months to complete the project.
“It’s an ambitious schedule, but were looking forward to it,” said Sieben.
The new facility would also be a money maker for the city. In addition to generating income tax, it would be a taxable property, meaning the city would collect approximately $125,000 per year in property taxes.
Mercy’s desire to build near the Interstate 90 and State Route 611 intersection is another positive, according to Mayor Jim Smith.
“We hadn’t had much of anything over there,” said Smith, referring to development proposals in the area. “We weren’t getting any questions.”
Smith said the “conversation is getting hotter” with the addition of establishments such as All Pro Freight Stadium, the French Creek Family YMCA and the new Wood and Wine restaurant.
“You have 80,000 people driving up and down the highway everyday, said Smith. “It (the establishments) draws people off the highway.
“It’s proving to be very positive for us. In the next few months we hope to see someone buying or developing in that area.”
Mercy officials will now seek approval from City Council members to build the facility.
