Fran's Friday Forum...It's About Time...!!!

You probably heard this week that TIME MAGAZINE named its 'man' of the year for 2010...!!!  

Among the mentioned prospects were that Julian Assange guy, informant and Wikileaks founder, who is being held under house arrest in England...after leaking top secret American classified documents...For the record...he is an anti-American radical socialist disguised as a legitimate journalist...  

Some other notable candidates mentioned were Lady Gaga, Glenn Beck, Barack Obama, Steve Jobs and The Tea Party...  

Pretty far down the list was the one whom I would have chosen if I understood Time's criteria correctly...  

I understood the criteria as selecting one who would be easily recognizable world wide, for good OR bad, one who has had and will continue to have a large impact on society in general, past and present...and one whose face would need no caption...  

The one TIME selected was Mark Zuckerberg, founder of FACEBOOK and an entrepreneur in his late twenties...an inspiring young fellow...  

I'll wager that before his name was mentioned as the 2010 MAN OF THE YEAR, nary a soul could describe him or even picture what he looked like in their mind...  

Yes, FACEBOOK is a world recognized and internationally used MEDIUM, but not because of its founder...because of the number of subscribers and the number of hours spent using this medium...ten percent of the world population are purported to use or subscribe to FACEBOOK...BUT...  

MY PICK for 'Man Of The Year', using Time's criteria.......SARAH PALIN...  

WHY.......???  

She is readily recognizable world wide...even though she came upon the world wide scene in 2008 when she was selected running mate vice president by John McCain...she has had a significant impact on politics ever since...she promises to have an impact on future politics...she is as equally hated by the left as she is loved by the right...  

AND SHE IS LITERALLY THE FACE OF THE TEA PARTY...  

Which remains the only legitimate movement that has real answers to our real problems...!!!

Fran, Sarah Palin also would have been a good pick with so much exposure for her in 2010. I think the MEDIA picked a MEDIA type personally. Keep the game going you know.

Fran - very interesting and thought provoking. Palin is certainly having a tremendous influence across all political ideologies. I do lean towards Zuckerburg though as his impact is currently more global. Like you, I am not sure that I would want her to run for president. I believe she can accomplish more with what she is currently doing.

Gary: I am a Sarah Palin fan.......and she's not that bad on the eyes either...that should lose her a ton of votes from jealous women...!!!

Mike: FACEBOOK, yes, but Zuckerberg, no...!!! Can you honestly say that you knew what he looked like before he was selected???

And, yes, Sarah Palin is spreading a good message which might get lost if she succumbs to political correctness...!!!

Fran - I can honestly say that I knew what he looked like before he was selected, at least enough to recognize his picture. And he was responsible for the distribution of facebook globally.

Fran...I gotta disagree here, but that's why they're called opinions...I can't stand the woman and it's not because of her politics...But, that's not a reason people are selected...Yes, she has a big presence in this country, but the rest of the civilized world could care less who she is...Zuckerberg has a global impact, so does Assange, even Lady Gaga...My 2 cents, nothing personal...Please, enjoy your weekend.

I'm not denying his intelligence, capabilities, and ingenuity, all I'm saying is that his Product, Facebook, commanded notoriety, not he himself...People are drawn to his creation, not him...!!!

P.S. In fact, the FACEBOOK logo, itself, is more recognizable than Z as you refer to him...!!! Besides, what has changed the world for the better, FACEBOOK and its huge amount of time expended to produce what, or The Tea Party which has and will continue to bring about positive change you can count on...!!!

I could not agree with you more about the wikileaks guy. To me he should be shot for treason. That so many like this guy I cannot understand. But you do lose me with Sarah Palin. The face book guy for influence, as much as I go oh no about social media would be my choice
