Christmastime

Each morning I begin my day by reading all the emails I missed being away from my computer, that need responses.    (I can do this from my Crackberry, but sometimes you need to write more, or do some research first.)   Facebook and Activerain are the next projects, and usually am ready to tackle the day by 8:30 or 9:00.     I got my E & O insurance renewed for another year, so I am able to STAY in this business!    This morning we are actually having a few snowflakes -- FINALLY!     It will only get to 31 degrees, but there is not to be any accumulation, so guess the snow blower will remain in the garage --- DRATS!

Yesterday was a wonderful day --- a past investor/buyer closed on their investment property and was a great walk through, and a smooth closing!    It was bank owned, so it was quick!     We went for dinner and celebration after wards.    We met a contractor at the property to do some minor repairs, and measured windows for window coverings to be done today!    We were happy to see the furnace DID work, white dirty, but heat is appreciated this time of year - even though the furnace will be replaced.

Santa

I made a few calls while on the road to set up more client "pop-bys" the week after Christmas.    I also made a couple phone calls to two men that lost their wives this year.    One was my boss, that I just adored while working at Safeway (20 years prior to real estate).    He retired in 1986, and I have made efforts to pick him and his wife up for lunch at least once a year since his retirement.    Mrs. C died this year in February, and he is not "a spring chicken", as he likes to say....      He told me he goes to Panera Bread each morning at 8:30, so one of these days (within a week), I will surprise him, and have breakfast with him!     He will be 88 in January!

For this time of year, having lost your spouse of YEARS has to be traumatic, and having friends around and KNOW you don't have to be alone hopefully has to help a little!

Reach out and touch someone today, make them smile!

What a lovely post, Joan - not only did you remember someone who had a positive influence in your life, but you gave him the most precious gift of all - your time!  I needed that reminder.  Best wishes for a fantastic 2011 - Cheers Wendy Betts Vancouver BC

Joan--You are so thoughtful and it comes so naturally.  Your referral business must be phenomenal---but your kindness is sincere and not for the sole purpose of boosting sales!!  Truly caring about our fellow man is the most important quality one can have!!

Joan,

Sorry to hear that two of your friend's lost their wives this year.  I pray they have an abundance of friends and family like you who are so kind and thoughtful to make time to stop by and visit with them during this Holiday Season!  Wishing them and you and your family many blessings now and in 2011.

Pat, that was very sweet.    I have had good success with past clients and referring to co-workers, family members and friends.

Joan.  good post.  It is hard for those who lost loved ones to cope with the holidays.  My mother in law passed in Sept.  My father in law is having a difficult time as they were together for 45 years.  Thanks for reminding me how difficult it can be.  Its easy to get caught up in the holiday rush and forget the needs of loved ones.

Belinda, reach out and touch your father-in-law --- they are hurting right now.    My clients/friends were very happy to hear from me, and I will go and have breakfast sometime this coming week, and surprise him.

DeeDee, just imagine if you lost your husband...what a loss at this time of year.     Enjoy, and have a very Merry Christmas!
