Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful- another great year.

This is our second year of contributing to the beautification of Glenn Heights.  Glenn Heights is a small city in comparison to the surrounding cities.  Its located in between Desoto, Red Oak and Lancaster.

So small that it does not have its own school system.  Students use Desoto and Red Oak ISD.

Our calendar of events included more participation from our youth population.  That is very impressive.  Who new that our children wanted to learn about recycling, Arbor Day, Earth Day and cleaning up its streets and parks.

January 2010- the committee worked on getting the necessary data and pictures for the Governor's Community Achievement Award for 2010.  We came in 2nd place for our population group.  For this being our first submission and achieving second place that was a pleasant surprise.  We are striving for 1st place in 2011.

April 2010- Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off and Arbor Day celebration at McCowan Middle School.

May 2010- volunteers helped mark the storm drains in the city.  They also cleaned the streams and they received a tshirt and lunch.

June 2010- the committee had a fundraiser garage sale.  Proceeds are for the purchase of a security camera for the Glenn Heights Police Dept.  They will use the camera to catch illegal dumpers in our city.  It seems residence from other cities like to come to Glenn Heights to dump their bulky trash.  The person was ticketed.

June 2010- HOA summit.  Our President Carl Whitehead, was spreadng the word about Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful by attending HOA meetings.  The purpose was to educate and recruit volunteers.  We were able to recruit 3 new volunteers.

August 2010- we became members of the Trinity River Environmental Education Society.

September 2010- Clean Air presentation at McCowan Middle School.

October 2010- Clean your space and Family Fest.  Clean your space was an event for residence to clean up their subdivisions.

November 2010- Recycle event at McCowan Middle School.  Students participated in activities about recycling.  They earned prizes for the correct responses.  Snacks were provided.

November 2010- Citywide Cleanup and Household Hazardous event.

December 2010- we are on a much needed vacation.  Merry Christmas to all!

We are looking forward to another great year of beautification in 2011.  We have already started collecting data and pictures from this year's events.  February 2011 is our deadline for submission to GCCA.
