QR Codes ~ Making a Statement...
Some time ago I wrote a post about QR Codes coming of age in the real estate world. Since then, there have been several featured posts by many ActiveRain members on the same topic each with a different slants, viewpoints and arguments articulating their pros and cons.
Some passed these off as mere folly, pooh-poohing that their is no practical use for them in the real estate business. Folly indeed! I guess their right. Who am I to argue with such foresightedness and intellectual prowess?
Nevertheless, there are those who embrace new, cutting edge technology. Maybe that explains the increase of their appearances in the tag lines and sidebars of the many patrons here in the rain. These folks get it! H-m-m-m, maybe the nay-sayers need to talk with these folks and inform them how preposterous they are too...

Michael - I am seeing these pop up more and more often. I am going to have to find your previous post on QR codes and check it out. Thanks,
QR codes are just the latest shiny object for real estate agents, nothing more.
Good evening Michael,
I know you are right and I will get to it..slammed which is good!! Can't believe how things have picked up. I have your post bookmarked and promise I will get to it!
Michael, I understand the idea...My question is 'how does this help me in business?'...I'd say that most of my clients have no idea what they are or have the phones to read them...Just as an aside, we have 27 agents in our office and the huge majority don't use smartphones...I have a BlackBerry for a long time by the way but when we talk about it in meetings, the comments are' I get email on my computer', 'I don't text', 'people that want information can call me, that's why I have riders'...Enjoy your weekend.
QR codes have been in use in many countries for nearly a decade now. They're making a splash in the USA as we speak. They're FREE and easy to set up. For those who lambasted YouTube and Social Media as pointless avenues for marketing they'll be behind the curve on QR codes too.
Michael - Until people started to write QR posts on ActiveRain, I was not aware of them. However, now I see QR codes being used more and more, but not on any frequent basis yet.
I learned WHAT they are in the rain, HOW to create one in the rain, and WHY I need on.... IN THE RAIN! Then I commented on their blog "I've been looking a Michael's for a while now... wondering what on earth it was!!"
This is funny. But, they should have read the posts on here to add in some pizzazz to it.
I think the codes are less than attractive, so I'm thinking about how many I need, and where I want them.
Michael,
"Suggested!"
Every time someone mentions "QR Codes" on ActiveRain, I see responses that make me think of Karen Fiddler's recent great Featured Post:
I have to agree with Michael (#15) and Craig (#9). More and more we are seeing the codes pop up everywhere. If you've been Christmas shopping, you've probably seen QR Codes being utilized by major retailers (Best Buy & others). As a new generation of Android & iPhone users come into the market, they will continue to expect their real estate professionals to provide services in a way that fits into THEIR lives. Adding the QR component to my marketing will take some creativity and a little time. But...at least I'll understand and can choose when, where, how and IF I want to use them. Besides...they're pretty odd-looking...odd enough to get attention. Maybe the phone will ring just to find out, and that's okay by me. That caller might need my services some day!
Thanks for the great post, Michael! We're seeing a lot of QR Codes in the Houston area. EXIT Realty in Atascosita just had a full-blown training class about the codes. I'm definitely going to share with my agents, as well.
Qr codes can definitely have their uses, but most don't get how to use them yet. I read a great post by Jay Thompson the other day that sums it up perfectly:
It is just a matter of time before these are all over signs and billboards.
This is another way showing your customers how you use cutting edge technology selling real estate. QR codes (QR stands for Quick Response) are image-based links to information like bar codes.
You can create QR code in less than 5 minutes try this site
http://www.i-nigma.com/CreateBarcodes.html.
The page provides HTML for an embedded image, or you can save the resulting image to your PC and then upload it to a web server. I just created one for Smart Phone's accessing properties for sale in the Dallas Texas area. I am using this on all my sales material.
QR codes make sense. I like them. Now if you don't have a smart phone, I believe they are useless.
I seem more and more realtors using them, but have not seen any data that buyers and prospects use them. I have conducted surveys in my marketplace and so far asking about fifty prospects if they know what to do with them and so far not one person has known how to use them.
I plan to start using them the first of the year. Working on my You Tube video. I can't wait to the best agent ahead!
