I am not sure if I like the cropped version of this Kodak Moment better, or the full tree version - What do you think?

  Cropped Rusty Christmas Photo

  Rusty Frank's Doberman at Christmastime

I am sharing with you one of those great Kodak Moments. Just like when your kids do something special you think - darn, where's my camera - I want to grab that photo and they move jsut before you get the shot! You can't get the shot and can't recreate it.

Rusty is a special Doberman. My father rescued him when he was about 9 months old. My father was a bit concerned about getting a dog to replace his "Rusty" that went to the Rainbow Bridge a few months before. My father wasn't feeling well and seemed to know his days were numbered. We convinced him to get another companion and promised him that we would care for him if something happened to our Father. At the time we did not know that our Father had colo-rectal cancer and his days were indeed numbered.

We moved him, our Step-Mom and Rusty up north from Florida so we could take care of our Father while he underwent Chemo and Radiation and all the nasty stuff that comes from trying to cure cancer. They all moved in with my sister, Darlene and her hubby Jack in Spring Grove, Illinois. This photo was taken a few weeks later. We didn't know it but this was our last Christmas with the whole family.

Rusty posed for this perfect shot by himself. This day, it was just meant to be - we would have a wonderful portrait. Rusty sat down by the tree and sat majestically just daring my sister to get the shot.

She grabbed her camera and here's what she got. She has tried and tried to recreate this photo with her other dogs, to no avail.

Rusty now resides at my other sister's home - Holly - in a country setting where he romps around with Mini horses and another doggie.

This is my favorite Kodak Moment. Thank you for letting me share it with you!

That is a beautiful photo of the tree with Rusty. We, too, rescued a red/rust dobie named Seren. Unfortunately, Seren passed away from cancer at the age of 12 1/2 last year... broke our hearts, she was such a big part of our family, we had her since the age of 2.

Also, sorry to hear that your father lost his battle with colo-rectal cancer. That is what my father is being tested over - and my father has not shared the results with us. (probably because of the Christmas Holiday & the family trip to Disney this coming week). I need to look up more information about that type of cancer. Again, so sorry to hear about your father.

Jack Mossman, The Nines Team in Stockton (The Nines Team Realty)  Thanks so much!  It's been a few years now, I can finally "talk" about it.  My father's passing was such a sad event!  As I am sure many others have been thru, it's difficult to lose a parent!

Carla Harbert - RE/MAX Pros of Westlake, Ohio (www.LorainCountyHomeSales.com)  SOrry to hear about the loss of Seren.  12 1/2 years - wow.  I grew up with Dobes and most of ours didn't make it to 10.  I hope we have Rusty that long!

Colo-rectal cancer is VERY curable in early stages.  Unfortunately for us, it was Stage 4 - terminal when his tumor was removed.  We had 1 more year with him, which I am MOST grateful for.  Good luck and if you need to talk, contact me!

VERY well behaved at the moment.... he is a really good dog.  He plays and doesn't get into things he's not supposed to.

Hey April, I know I am a little late to the party, but I just LOVE the cropped photo!  That photo looks like it came strait from a magazine!  Rusty looks like the perfect present under that beautiful tree.  What a wonderful thing your dad did to take the chance to love another needing dog.  I am so very sorry your father and your family had to go through the unbearable pain of colo-rectal cancer.  Christmas must be a difficult time for you and your family.
