Using Evernote

For a while now I have been using the "Sticky-notes" program that comes with Windows 7 and find that it's a handy place to quickly jot down an idea for later use. There is so much input these days from a variety of sources that capturing the things you want to retain is difficult without a versatile tool. But these notes are computer specific.

This week I started using Evernote. Evernote is a free program that has been around for a few years. You can download it on your smart phone and on any computers or laptops you use. For instance, if you are in a restaurant and want to remember the ingredients of a particular dish you can take a picture of the menu item and email it to your Evernote email address. Later when you access Evernote on the web and log-in, the menu photo is there and all of your other ideas are handy, as well as any pictures or pdf files you've already sent to Evernote.

Here is a video of how I went about capturing an idea that I wanted to give some more thought to.

Glenn - I love this!  I'm always writing on whatever is available, even tissue boxes, so this could save a tree or two.  Thanks!  And Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I guess we never fully appreciate little notes until we are trying to remember something. The more I use these types of short cuts it seems as if my memory fails a little more...

Tish - I'm hoping to find it useful for the retrieval of notes I left somewhere else.

Paul - I try to keep the brain engaged in otherways. Crossword puzzles, mentally tallying the groceries as I place them in the basket and so forth. Things I don't want to recall later. That function is totally shot, except for real estate. My clients and their transaction details stay in my head for quite some time.

I like it I like it---will check it out---won't exactly replace the sticky note right in the center of my screen though :)

Charlie - Oh, is that why you were carrying your monitor in your truck on an inspectin recently?

Glenn,

I've had Evernote on my iPhone for the longest time but never really used it. Looks like I'll have to give it another try.

Rich - Seems like a pretty easy way to send something to a computer when you're on the go...and other times too.

I just commented on someone else's post about how wonderful this program is. I love the fact that you can attach PDF files to the note and those are also searchable.

Don - Heck, I thought so.

Todd - I'm finding it does a whole lot of stuff.

Christina - It's nice to note something here, and find it when I'm there.

When you right clicked it were you using a Mac? I just signed up and it's not an option on my computer. I'm so excited to start using this. I'm constantly saving things to my favorites to go back and "research" later. This will be so much easier!

Debi - With a Mac the command is different. I PC so I don't know. You may have to reboot to populate the menus. Heres a screen shot of what my right click looks like.

Glenn, I just discovered Evernote yesterday and am eagerly looking for ways to implement it.  Thanks for the video!  That made it so easy to see how I can copy things that prompt ideas.

I am loving this!!

Glenn, I am so excited about Evernote that I had to come back.  I searched for an Evernote group on AR but didn't find one, so I created it.  I hope you will consider joining and adding this post to it.  I think Evernote has the capacity to be a real game changer.  Can't wait to really put it to use!
