The Cold Winter, Warm Engine Rat Story
My parents were recently told by their pest-control man --they have "rodent activity" in their attic. The weather has been rather chilly here lately, and so the rodents head for warm spaces. This post by Loreena Yeo was most informative, as I had never heard of rats nesting (AND CHEWING ON WIRES) in cars!! Good information to pass along!
This is a pretty gross story but I have to share it anyways... Hopefully it will bring you a new awareness about some pests we HATE tremendously..... RATS.
My sister keeps all her cars outside her garage (front entry garage). Her "Check engine light" came on so she brought her car into the dealership. Diagnosis: Rats have been chewing on the electrical wires. Rats have been making a home out of her car. See picture.
This is one of the worst pest stories I've ever heard.
According to the mechanic, it's been COLD outside and rats have been finding warmth in the cars (engines). That's their theory. My sister has a car in the garage that doesn't get used much. When my brother-in-law checked, nothing happened to it (car in garage) but all the outside cars (3 of them were).
The scariest part of the story is how fast they create homes out of cars.....
When my brother-in-law took the car in, the dealership sent him home with a loaner. 2 days later, the "Check engine light" also came on. My brother-in-law looked and true enough had wires bitten. My dad who lives with my sister checked his car after my brother-in-law told him what happened found dried grass in his engine, ready to make a home out of it. My dad just bought the car 2 days ago.
Just GROSS.....
Well, moral of the story: Look out for pests creating/ making homes because it's been way too cold lately. I know my pest guy will be on the lookout.
