If you are thinking about getting a designation or certification, I'd like to encourage you to think about becoming an Ecobroker. It's a great program, it's timely and it's a great way network and make friends.

Call them and ask questions (I did)and tell them Dena sent you!

Yes! A Cape with a big 'E' on the back!  Good luck with the brokers exam.

One day Dena!  I need to finish my RSPS (Resort certification) first.  I signed up for the online 1031 class last January, and never have got around to taking it.  It is the last thing I need for it and I just need to not blog for two nights and get it done!

Good luck with the RSPS and not blogging. Somebody should develope a 12 step program of A.R. members.

Congratulation to all the AR members who have already taken the step.  This is something I plan to do and might get to put it to use in the coming year.

Hi Dena--

I've had my EcoBroker certification for several months now.  I've been green since before it was a color, but now people seem to give me more credit for what I know/have experienced.  I did a Builders Show right after I got the certification and the show had a large green component.  It was really fun explaining to the public and builders what the certification could mean to them when utilizing my services.  Made some great connections and things keep networking out from the initial ones.... Because a lot of people haven't heard of it, it makes for great conversation--especially since green is on everyone's lips these days!

Set aside a few days where you'll have little distraction, I know that's almost impossible, but total immersion worked best for me--with just a few of life's "other" things knocking on the door... Really helped the focus!  Good luck to all who decide to take the course!

Hi Dena - Thanks for the mention.  As you know - you were the inspiration for me taking the certification last year.  Now to leverage it in this market!

Dena,

I have thought about doing this for a while. I think this winter when things are not as busy I will pursue a Ecobroker certification.

09/13/2007 10:23 AM by Colorado Springs Real Estate (Prudential Professional Realtors)

I'm glad that this designation is being viewed with less skepticism... I've had those who tell me that "eco" related business is just a marketing fad. Thankfully, more and more are seeing the bigger picture.

09/13/2007 10:44 AM by Chuck Willman, Arizona Realtor®, ABR, TRC (Gentry Realty)

Yes, there is skepticism with anything labeled green--even with the building association that I'm involved in.  My advantage is that I've been doing this for so long, if they take one minute to talk to me, they know it goes to the core and is not the latest fad!  And if other EcoBrokers have assimilated what the course taught, they too should be treated seriously!  Green is all encompassing right now and there is a lot of information to have at your finger tips.

Tamara, I forgot you - I'm sorry. I've read your profile and you an Ecobroker to the bone

Hi ya Tony - thanks for stopping by!

Dan - Ecobroker is based in Evergreen. I drove up and interviewed them before going for it. And they have great conventions.

Dear Somebody, I just wrote a post about following the consumer green trail. We shouldn't jump on the green band wagon just because somebody on TV tells us to do so. Thanks for commenting.

Jennifer, I would think in your areas being an Ecobroker would be interesting. Just the East Coast/ West Coast thing. So for it!

Joanne and Konnie - We should get capes, how fun would that be!

09/13/2007 10:57 AM by Dena Stevens ~ Ecobroker ~So. Colorado Realtor (Colorado Western Real Estate)

Hi Dena:  I have been wanting to look into this.  I must say New Hampshire is getting greener, but it does have a way to go.  Thanks for the links.

Hi Dena,

I just recently received my designation as an EcoBroker! I agree with you 1000%! It's a great program and those interested should definitly look into the program. There are most definitly never enough EcoBrokers in the world!!

Thanks for helping to spread the word :)

Hey Dena--

Yeah, to the bone!  If we get capes, can we get a theme song too?  A taadaadadaa or something when we walk into the room?  ;- )

09/13/2007 12:15 PM by Tamara Perlman, Lake Tahoe Truckee CA Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

Tamara, Make you a deal. We both show up at an Ecobroker event. I'll bring the capes you bring the music! TADA!

Tamera, I havent' heard yet if / where/ when the next Ecobroker conferance might be. Last year it was in Golden. I just checked the site, but didn't see anything. Do you know?

09/13/2007 12:50 PM by Dena Stevens ~ Ecobroker ~So. Colorado Realtor (Colorado Western Real Estate)

I'm working on my EcoBroker certification right now.  I've given myself a deadline of December 31 to finish it.

Hi Dena--

I haven't heard of any conferences/events, but I did send Linda an email asking if anything is coming up.  It would be fun for a bunch of us to walk in with our capes and a boombox!

09/13/2007 08:53 PM by Tamara Perlman, Lake Tahoe Truckee CA Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

Tricia, you'll do great. It's a wonderful program

Tamara, I will if you will =)

I don't get too crazy in public, but my friends are always surprised by my "other side".    Heavy metal music, dry sense of humor catches them off guard and I've been Known to dress up in a wig to imitate my former manager for Halloween, so I think I could pull off the cape and boombox scenario.  Haven't heard from Linda yet.  oooh, oooh what if we painted our skin green too!!! ;-)

09/13/2007 10:32 PM by Tamara Perlman, Lake Tahoe Truckee CA Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

This is something I am interested in- thank you for the post and link!

Hi Dena--

Heard back from Linda at EcoBroker and she said they were still planning a 2008 convention but had not set the details.  Will let you know if I hear anything else.engkala

09/20/2007 12:27 AM by Tamara Perlman, Lake Tahoe Truckee CA Real Estate (Coldwell Banker)

Bill and Barbara, you are welcome

Tamara, thanks for the information. I'm surprised they aren't planning a 2007 event.

09/20/2007 08:44 AM by Dena Stevens ~ Ecobroker ~So. Colorado Realtor (Colorado Western Real Estate)

Dena - great comments you have hear. Thanks for putting this out there. I have been very impressed with the quality of the agents I have met through active rain!

I got my EcoBroker Certification about a month ago. That was a great class with info to use in your personal and business life. I learned so much and am working on using it in my real estate practice.

Thank you all for your comments. Ecobrokers unite! I hope to one day meet you at an Ecobroker Conferences.

10/07/2007 08:29 PM by Dena Stevens ~ Ecobroker ~So. Colorado Realtor (Colorado Western Real Estate)

Wow I am impressed with the concept and I don't think anyone where I am is an EcoBroker yet.  How long does it usually take to complete the course?

10/08/2007 01:00 PM by Chris Gempeler - Mountain Top Realtor (Keller Williams Realty)

Chris, you can be the first in your area! I'm the first in Southern Colorado. You have a year to complete the course, I buckled down and did mine in about 6 weeks. Give Ecobroker a call and ask them questions, I did and it made me more comfortable about jumping into the course.

10/08/2007 01:04 PM by Dena Stevens ~ Ecobroker ~So. Colorado Realtor (Colorado Western Real Estate)

It took me about 2 months, but I'm sure it could probably be finished faster. I usually read the books and then took the online courses also so it was a little slower. Great training though, I would definitely reccommend it to everyone. You'll learn so much from it.

10/08/2007 10:52 PM by Sherry Laursen (Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate)

Dena, Count me in your group of EcoBrokers.  I am the newest member as of today!
