Cold Weather Fun - Snow or Shine - The Knickerbocker Ice Festival At Rockland Lake, Valley Cottage, NY

The 5th Annual Knickerbocker Ice Festival is scheduled to take place January 29th and 30th, 2011.  The theme of this year's  Knickerbocker Ice Festival .is a celebration of Rockland Lake's history - as the center of the ice industry during the 19th century.

The ice festival is a fun filled family event with something for all ages and tastes.  There will be local artists with artwork for sale and ice carving competition by ice sculptors invited to participate in the event.  You can watch the sculptures being created.  There will also be games and entertainment for the kids and a special Kidz Ice Park where they can build an igloo.  You can dance along with professional dancers and a live DJ ( a great way to warm up for both adults and kids) or relax and warm up at the campfire and warming stations.

The Ice Gallery will feature a history of the lake in pictures preserved in blocks of ice.  Storytellers will help you learn all about the mystery of Rockland Lake and how ice was harvested by the Knickerbocker Ice Company.

So bundle up the kids and and head to Rockland State Park - Snow or Shine - for the Knickerbocker Ice Festival:

It sounds like fun. But I am becoming such a wimp in my old age. I like to stay warm and even extra warm, so doing an event like this will take a lot of gumption from me. Enjoy! :)

Leah, Sounds like a really fun winter event.  Ice sculpting would be fun to watch and it is just amazing the amount of work put into temporary art like that.  Have fun and stay warm.

These kind of festivals are so much fun!  Attended one in Idaho a few years back and was amazed at the sculptures.  Hardly even noticed the cold it was so much fun!

Cal, I've missed you in the rain.  I can so identify with your wimpiness as you age sydrome.  I'm vasciallating between wanting badly to go to the festival to having second thoughts because of the cold.

Gloria - I've never been to this event, but hope to go this time around and it should be great to see.

Melissa - wouldn't that be a treat - an ice festival in spring!

Cinnamon - I'm hoping you're right about that one, that I I'll be having too much fun to notice the cold.

Michael - It stopped snowing here and we didn't get it bad.  Connecticut is bearing the brunt of it.  I wouldn't want to be there now.

Jennifer - Almost makes you want to take a ride down and join us.  How about it?
