Pay It Forward - A Little hope At McDonalds

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Lizette Realty - Lexington KY - Richmond KY

I've read about people doing this and I planned to try it out the next time I did order through the drive-up window. Today was my chance to pay it forward for the folks behind my car.

It looked to be a family of four in the car. As I paid for my meal, I asked the guy at the window if I could pay for the people behind me in line. The thing about this is you won't know of the outcome.

SnowmanThe other day I read a story in the letter to the editor in the Lexington Herald and the letter was from someone where this had been done for them.

Here is what they wrote...

I was waiting in line at McDonald's drive through on Harrodsburg Road last month.

When I got to the window, the young man told me that the patrons in the car in front of me had paid for my food.

I  do not know who those people were but the gift I received from them was something I really needed.

In the previous monthes I experienced the loss of my mother, I found out I have lung cancer an have begun chemotherapy.

I have taken many things for granted in my 45 years of life and have been a pessimistic person.

That was one gesture and wave from the people in the car in front of me as they drove off, affected me in more ways than I can say.

To them, I say, "Thank You," because I needed that gesture probabaly more than any in my life.

There are good people in this world and you do not have to know someone for them to impact your life.

Hope is what I needed, and a $4 gesture from the car in front of me from people I did not know,  instilled hope in me. treasure all the people you know and the good people you may not know this season and may God bless YOU!

I love it Lizette.  If it happens to be someone in need of financial help, or a loving gesture, or just a friendly wave and smile, what a lovely gift.

Lizette - You are wonderful and so is the story you read in the paper.  When you pay it forward to others it is such a feel good moment and you just don't know how it's going to impact the person your've helped.

This is a very nice story. It is amazing how little can effect so much. Probably the best $4 ever spent.

Merry Christmas.

How thoughtful; my wife was the recipient of one of these random acts of kindness at a drive-through just a couple weeks ago, and she was quite shocked.  I said "hey, I've heard about that..."

Lizette:  I did this once but it was my husband in the car behind me.  It surprised him a lot.  Thank you for reminding me to widen the circle to include strangers.  This is a nice and easy Play it Forward.

You're likely just gonna blow the five or ten bucks on something you don't really need anyway.  What a great way to make a difference in someone else's life with it instead.

The joy you got was well worth the few dollars it cost you, and the joy you gave was way greater than the few dollars!

We had that happen one time at Starbucks. Was quite a surprise. We did the same and paid for the people right behind us.

They were sure getting into the "Free Hugs" until the "Man" came along and prohibited them.  Bummer.

Wonderful.     I  must try this too.    It's a small thing to do but if everyone would pay it forward,  no matter how small,  what an impact we could all have.

Lizette, We just never know how great the impact a small act of kindness will have on the receiver. You say “you won’t know the outcome.” Maybe not directly … but we know it will be good!
