Below are some screenshots of the iPhone / iPod Touch optimized RealBird listing presentation interface.

Real estate on iPhone

RealBird on iPhone

RealBird on iPhone

Home buyers can now see your featured listings on their Apple iPhone and Apple iPod Touch device with optimized presentation. Or you can show your listings for prospective buyers or fellow agents on the road using the device's built in web browsing capability. Stunning presentation on a stunning device.

We are giving away an Apple iPod Touch

We also started a sweepstakes with an Apple iPod Touch as the prize. There is no purchase necessary. All you have to do is invite at least one colleague or real estate partner to join RealBird for free. Those of you who already invited people before, are automatically enrolled, but inviting more people increases your chance to win. Every invitation email counts as one distinct enrollment. No registration or purchase is required from you or your invitees.

To enroll do the following (you must be a real estate professional to participate):

  1. Register with the free RealBird Listing Publisher (real estate professionals only)
  2. Login if you are already a member
  3. Visit the Invite Colleague s page
  4. Enter your colleagues' email addresses
  5. Send invitation. You are automatically enrolled in the sweepstakes

Drawing is on October 31, 2007 and the winner will be also announced on this blog.

So far only 1 million people can use the tool. But I would be interested to see if this takes off.

Adam,

I agree, it will be very interesting to see how iPhone / iPod Touch adaptation will go in the real estate industry.

But I wish I had 1 million new customers in 2 months :-) That's a lot for a brand new product.

The iPod Touch to be released on Sept 28 (and the one we are giving away as the prize) has the web browsing capability of the iPhone without the constraints of being linked to ATT. It is a wi-fi based device so it will work anywhere where wi-fi is available and RealBird service should be compatible both with the iPhone and the iPod Touch I suspect that Apple will sell a LOT of iPod Touch - people who do not want ATT service, people who can not have ATT in their area, people on a budget, and people who will upgrade their existing iPod to this new version - hundreds of millions of potential customers.

Every email address an invitation is sent to counts as one distinct entry. If you send out an invitation to 10  addresses for example, that's 10 distinct entries. You can send all 10 at once (one address per line on the form) and it still counts 10. We count the number of distinct email addresses sent to. Also, it counts even if they decide not to sign up with RealBird (why wouldn't they, really). Plus invitation sent before is already recorded and counts as well.

This is a way for us to say "thank you" for those members who promote RealBird.

Thanks

This is a brilliant way to do quick presentations and the instant on feature is amazing.  I tested the iPhone briefly and I was not pleased with it for a daily use device but as a wifi device it was top notch.  The new IPOD Touch is going to be a grand slam home run even if you do not use it for anything other than wifi.

Completely agree. After we notified our RealBird members about our iPod Touch sweepstakes, interest seems to be really, really high.

Wait until you see how video tours look and present on the iPhone and iPod Touch - that will really get you thinking.  =]

We're seeing this as a serious opportunity to really leverage the benefits of these emerging portable devices.  Imagine driving down a street, seeing a 'for sale' sign, locating the property on a Google Map on your iPhone (or other), and then being able to view a full video listing of the property right there.  Sick!

It's an interesting time to be a technology geek in the real estate community, for sure!

You can already show property videos via YouTube. iPhone and iPod Touch both support playback of YouTubes video. That is pretty cool: you can show your listing info via RealBird and video via YouTube.

Currently the iPhone/ iPod Touch spec does not seem to support linking from the page directly to the YouTube video, but I guess that's coming. However Apple do support video playback from a webpage (e.g. RealBird Listing Publisher) if it is encoded according to their spec (not via Flash based video sharing sites). We are looking into the option to provide this capabilities to our RealBird members soon.

Thanks

Zoltan,

Just to explain a little bit, the 'standard' YouTube links from the website will not load on an iPhone because they are Flash videos in FLV format, which the iPhone does not (yet?) support.  However, the YouTube you see on your iPhone via the main interface is a 'special version' which displays selected content that has been encoded as an H264 Mp4 for the iPhone.  Just wanted to let you know the details here in case you were interested!

Dan,

You are exactly right. What I referred to is that you can already view YouTube videos on iPhone, iPod Touch including the agents' own video. So even now, an agent can use the RealBird Listing Publisher to create iPhone / iPod Touch optimized listing presentation and use the built in YouTube support to show the same property's video on the same device at the same time. It is already here ! However, iPhone opens the built-in Google Maps, phone and  emailer if one formats the Url in the iPhone optimized webpage correctly, but does not support linking directly to the built-in (!) YouTube player. That would make it a no brainer for us to link the two distinct user experiments together. The iPhone dev pages explain the currently supported embedding mechanism (Ensure Great Audio and Video Experience) which we are going to support soon. Currently the agent has to switch between the Safari browser and built-in YouTube app to show both the RealBird listing site and the video. The good news is that it's a bliss with iPhone, you can toggle between the two applications without losing the context. So even at this point, this is a VERY usable mobile presentation device. I agree with Sam, the iPod Touch will be a huge sales success for Apple

Thanks

Hello Zoltan, Kathryn and I are very much looking into upgrading our phones, and your applications here make the iPhone very compelling.  For today's application: A listing Flyer in the flyer box as I see could have one or two more URLs for the smartphone user to enter.  One URL could be a TinyURL to the RealBird single property flyer you've described here.

Could another URL possible be to the Facebook Listing tab you've helped us set up?  Thanks!  John

John - That's a good idea indeed. You could also have a street address domain name on the flyer. If they access it with their desktop/laptop they get the regular RealBird listing website, when they access it with an iPhone/iPod Touch they get the view which is optimized for that device. You can also link directly to the Homes for Sale tab on your Facebook Page, for that creating a short Url makes sense. I am not sure about TinyUrl but http://bit.ly does let you pick your own vanity name after the short Url so you end up with a easy to type in link with a little more readability. E.g. http://bit.ly/VancouverHomes

Hello Zoltan,  thanks for the follow-up.  I like the bit.ly vanity URL.  (darn, I just made a flyer run for the week without this!).  This will make a great tool for both listing presentations, and for Buyer's with Smartphones!  John

PS - I also now have a cool short link to my new (RealBird) Featured Listings tab on my Facebook Fan page: http://bit.ly/VancouverHomes

John - Your idea is great to market the smartphone version of your listing website on print flyers. That bit.ly link with the vanity Url linking to your Facebook Page is great ! They also provide stats for the bit.ly links, just add a + to the end of the link. The cool thing is that you can then have different bit.ly link for different flyers, one that you don't post anywhere else but the print flyer only and you will be able to have a segmented analytics for that channel. Do you mind if I write a post about this (Print flyer, bit.ly and RealBird combo) - with the proper credit to you of course?

Hi Zoltan, this is coming along nicely.  Perhaps I can update one of my flyers for an example you could use.  Otherwise, this smartphone application with bit.ly will be fun to explore and see what creative and lead generating options come from the sharing.  Blog On!  John
