Many real estate and mortgage consultants I know give plants as house warming gifts.

That’s a good idea, but plants die.

Another idea is to give a fireproof safe for all their important documents. The safe costs more than a plant, but will last a lifetime. You can get one for under $30.

And it has plenty of space for you to put a sticker with your picture right on top. So, they will see you every time they open it.

And heaven forbid, if there is ever a fire, the safe will protect their important papers and they will thank you like you won’t believe.

It makes a great gift, especially since most people won’t buy one for themselves.

What do you think? Do you like this idea?

Ilyce - great idea!  I would have never thought of that!  I know that a plant is nice but only lasts a little while where as the safe can last forever!  :)

OMG, that is a GREAT idea.  I'm a brown thumb, so a plant would never work for me!  I have a small safe like that, but the sticker idea & safe is still awesome!!  BTW, that is really not much more than plant!!

Ilyce,
Leave it to you to come up with such a unique idea, I love it!  Thank you for sharing it with us.

Ronald: Glad you like it! And I guess the price depends on the plant, huh?

This is dynamite Ilyce! Fantastic idea that I plan to share with the associates in my Coldwell Banker office at our next staff meeting! Thank you!

Great idea Ilyce!  I must say, though, that I did enjoy the $50 Bed Bath & Beyond gift card I got when I recently bought my house.  It's hard to put your business card on a gift card, though.

Great Idea, I need to buy one of those for myself too!

Kevin - Go for it! Be sure to come back here and let us know what they thought, ok?

Patty - There's no rule that says you can't give both, right? Maybe one at closing and one for housewarming?

Great idea! I bought a plant once and was told "I'm not a plant person"... lol.. I then realized I was buying more on my taste and not thinking of my client, and what they would need. This sounds like a gift anyone would like, need and use for years to come!

Nia - That's hilarious! What a way to be reiminded to not think about yourself when gift-giving, huh? LOL

Ilyce - that's a good idea.  I have thought about ways to keep a theme going over the first months.  Been doing some brainstorming with a member of my BNI group.  Will have to keep that one in mind!

Matthew - Cool beans. I never thought about a theme. Interesting idea.

Great Idea!  I have on myself that I use and never thought of giving it as a gift, although I did receive mine as a wedding gift-and it is really handy! Thanks for sharing the idea!

Fabulous idea!  I sometimes give gift baskets with some of my marketing products in it such as a coffee cup with my name on it and a pen, etc. along with some goodies.  Instead of having it made up in a basket, I could have it made up in a safe.  Thanks for the idea.

Ilyce - I like this idea, and anything that your clients can look at, and remind them of you is even that much better

Dan - Gotta stay top-of-mind, right? Glad you like the idea. Thanks.
