Remembering our purpose

I closed a transaction yesterday. I was not much money nor was it the greatest home sold in my portfolio. However it was one of the most rewarding closings I have had in a very long time.

The home was a "foreclosure" and it sold for $58k. It was a cash deal (that was great), but the feeling this closing gave me helped me remember why I gotten into this field in the first place many years ago.

The buyer was older and had saved his money for fifteen years, and this would be the first property he ever purchased. It started off to be an "investment" property. After working with my client for a bit, I came to realize that instead of paying rent for the place he was living just to receive rent from a "investment property", it just really didn't make since.

I sat with him and talked about the pros and con's, some of the tax advantages and dis-advantages (I know I know, I am not an accountant or Tax attorney), down to the "peace of mind" of truly owning your own home, he decided to purchase the home as his primary residence.

At closing he told me how he just couldn't sleep waiting to hear about the closing date and time and told me how lucky he was to have found me the first time and that I had made it so easy, to which of course I let him know that he was the one who made it a easy and painless experience.

After closing we went to the house, I gave him his keys and the look on his face was just priceless.

I am going to make a "New Years Resolution" here and now to remember this mans face when things are hard and I ask myself for the ten millionth time "Why did you choose this career again?", because today I remembered my purpose just in time for Christmas. What a wonderful Christmas gift this man gave me and I am sure he doesn't even realize what a great gift it is.

You have painted a wonderful picture and I am sure you will remember his face and the feeling when you need it.  Congratulations.
