One of my favorite movies is Rising Sun starring Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes.  The movie is a commentary on the differences between American Culture and Japanese Culture.  There is a quote by Sean Connery that applies to todays world of Real Estate.  It's a topic that has been much debated on Active Rain and I thought of it today when I was reading different blogs on blaming Realtors for the current market.                                                                                                                    Rising Sun (1993) Poster

The Japanese have a saying. "Fix the problem, not the blame."

Find out what's f****** up and fix it.

Nobody gets blamed.

We're always after who f***** up.

Their way's better.

This is one of those movie quotes that has stuck with me throughout my life.  I must admit that I have my strong opinions on the current state of the market.  It's been incredibly fun discussing and arguing the different political views.  Now that the newness is gone, let's just work together to fix the problem in the best way we can as individual professionals.

Let's use active rain to shine light on solutions that each of us can use to make a difference in our business and the lives of our clients.

Forget the blame game and find and share a cumulative solution, one step at a time, one day at a time!

Movies can be very inspiring. Art imitating life, or life imitating art?  Either way, your point is well made.  It doesn't really matter who to blame- the problem needs to be fixed. If we all do our part, we will get through it.

You are absolutely right.  Life is so much better when we focus on the solutions and stop caring who gets the blame (or the credit for thee fix).  Thank you for bring our focus back to where it should be.

We all know the problem.  Placing blame is a way to make someone feel better.

Hello Kate,
You are so right.  How does the saying go, you are either a part of the problem or the solution?  Well let's make sure we are on the right side.  Right?

I agree with you all; blaming isn't solving!  If everyone looked at themselves and made right and moral decisions, there would be nothing to blame on anyone.

Isn't it so easy to fix the blame. A solution orientation keeps your blood pressure down and transaction closing rate up. Unfortunately, not all parties to a transaction share this philosophy!

Love the comments, I also agree with everyone else. However society has embedded in us that someone or something has to be fingered then everyone can dump on what ever it was or whom. Then its on to the next big thing. Thank you media Moguls.

Kate,

We need to put Connery as James Bond in charge and he would fix things up. He always did. Seriously, the right way to move ahead is to forget about spending time and energy in figuring out who f***** up. Instead, just come up with workable solutions and get on with it.

Esku - that would be good wouldn't it.  You are right and you caught the reason for the post.  All we need to do is focus on our part, the rest will fix itself over time!

It is better to look for a solution rather than blame someone. I always look at myself first and see what I could have done differently so that there would not have been a problem.

Blaming, like whining, never gets anyone anywhere.  Thanks for the reminder.

Funny but I just wrote the same thing on my out of control post......let's fix it, we know we have a problem :) This was great timing :)

Kathy, your out of control post is awesome.  I've been following it.  Good stuff.  Another Californian up in the wee hours of the morning?  Thanks for commenting.

Kate,

I'm a huge movie buff and am often inspired by movie quotes as well.  I'm tired of the "blaming game" that everyone wants to play.  Love the post.  Let's just fix the problem and stop blaming eachother.

Great quotes and post.   I just tell people.....there is no problem!!   This is still a great market.....to buy a home!!!  It really is.  When we were in the middle of our "great market"  Buyers were getting a raw deal.  Now the tables have turned and that's okay!

Thanks.

You hit the nail on the head!  I'm so tired of seeing finger pointing going on.  Its so refreshing to see so many ready to find a solution and ignore all the blame game.

Great post.  When my husband and I try to blame the other or argue (which isn't very often) I  say "OK you win."  So what does he win?  Nothing.  There is no prize.  The only thing you achieve is making the other person feel bad.  Let's try to fix the problem not waste our time blaming the other.

So I go back to a quote I use all the time on here..."look for ways to put yourself and others up"...learned that from Lou Tice
