The Best Birthday Present Ever! Vision & Belief Made it Come True!
Hiking mountains has been my passion for years. I started hiking the mountains around Vail, Co when I lived there after college and I continued hiking after we moved to Arizona. Hiking is almost like breathing to me, just part of everyday life. Or so it was until a few years ago....
I started noticing my left foot kept on bugging me day after day of pounding the hills. I ignored it for quite sometime but that didn't work out so well. I finally agreed to surgery and as it turned out 2 years later it still wasn't working so well. I gave up for awhile because it was so frustrating to hurt all the time.
Going from hiking 6 days a week to none took quite the toll on me, both in quiet, meditative/inspiration time and health.
About a month ago I said - I'm so done with this sitting around stuff. I want, need and MUST get back on top of that hill! Whatever it takes I'm willing to make it happen.
Fast forward 3 weeks later......I've made it about half way up the mountain (1 mile). Yeah! I'm slow as molasses (as compared to before) but who cares....I'm at least out there! I fully intend to be on top by New Years Day 2011! Here's what I decided and figured out might work - until further notice I take 2 ibuprofens before I start out so that it doesn't get too painful. At some point I'm expecting that I'll work it out where I won't need to take any more of that stuff. Can you tell I don't like taking drugs - uggg!
Yesterday as I was at the 1/2 way mark I looked up at the 'goal' and KNEW, simply KNEW that I belonged back up on top.
I KNOW it. I SEE it. I BELIEVE it. It's like I have this old trusted friend back in my life.
There is something so wonderful about being out in nature and getting exercise at the same time. We live in the middle of Phoenix with the North Mountain Phoenix Preserve in our backyard. It's like a little slice of heaven!
You see, tomorrow is my birthday. Yes I'm a Christmas Eve Baby! A hiking birthday girl! Click on pics and sing along!
The best present ever is to be back on the hill - not quite to the top - but almost.
