Whatever Happened To Trading Stamps?

Remember, back in the day, when we received either S & H Green Stamps OR Blue Chip Stamps.  Usually, if I remember correctly, you received on stamp for each dime you spent.  Now, of course, this seems like a lot, but things were much, much less expensive in those days.

We grabbed those stamps from the clerk, ran home just as fast as we could and pasted them into our stamp books.  (for you younger people, I'm not EVEN kidding about this) lol

And, then we got out the old catalog and started planning what we were going to trade our stamps in for.  I think just about EVERYONE, at one time or another, got the big painting of the blacksmith's shop with the horse.  I bet there are a lot of those on Ebay somewhere.  Another item was a wall clock that was about a 15-inch circle with big wooden spikes all around.  Looked like Sputnik.

It was always a family decision of what would be purchased with these stamps.  But, somewhere, I'm gonna guess the late 1970's, they just went away.  Hmmmm?

Wouldn't it be great if merchants brought these back?  I think it would boost the economy.  Who do I speak to about this?

Nerry Christmas Everyone!

When I left home to get married, 1966, bought a house, mortgage was $119.00 a month, I started saving the green stamps.  Gas, food, and what ever.  Saved up enough for my first gift.  Got a set of four carbon steel knives, best knives I ever owned.  Still have them after 44 years, and they are as sharp as ever.

The Jewel, one of the big food chains in the Chicago area is giving stamps to redeem on cookward.  I usually pass them on to someone who is.  Also remember when you received glassware or other gifts when purchasing gas.  Ha, ha, ha couldn't imagine that ever happening again.

I remember Momma collecting those green stamps years and years ago.  With todays world, I doubt we'll ever see them again.
