I know I have not posted much over the past several months as life lessons have taken center stage for a while. But I did want to comment on the fantastic network of connections that Active Rain has continued to provide over the past six months. I did an interview for Realtor Magazine back in the Spring on different green home features I saw being used in the Asheville area. The article just came out in their September Issue. The magazine found me and our agency EcoSteward Reality through Active Rain.  It never ceases to amaze me just how productive and wide reaching my little Active Rain blog can be in regards to getting the word out about so many important real estate issues, but especially on healthy and energy efficent building information.

Of course, I really think that Green Buidling  is starting to go mainstream if the Realtor Magazine is featuring these types of stories.  The high cost of energy is, of course, a driving factor in the highlighting of energy efficiency construction and building techniques but I believe that this  trend will continue in regards to other healthy and environmentally beneficial aspects of green building such as the use of No VOC paints or unhealthy glues, sustainable floor, countertops, and cabinets materials.

Of course the Home and Garden TV Network has also begun to embrace Green Building in a big way.  As Janeanne mentioned in an earlier post  I also had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a filming of a House Hunters episode on Green Homes this past July (that is another blog!). The House Hunter episode was also a direct connection from Active Rain as that is how they found me. So, Active Rain continues to provide outstanding networking connections as they help the Green Movement go mainstream! What more can you ask for!

Thank you for continuing to talk about green building.  I've blogged about it several times on AR.  Of course, being in Berkeley, green is any easy sell and a topic that most clients want to talk about.  But, I imagine it might be a challenge in other areas.  I'm glad to see the movement going more mainstream!

I have a good friend that is opening a green business for homes and using products to help commercial roofs and some stucco products.  He is starting on the East Cost and doing a lot in FL.  People are very open to this and want more.

We all need to be aware of this.

Hi Mary:

What are your most requested green features out there in Berkeley? Here in Asheville, I would say the Hardiplank siding, quality duct and insulation installation, and energy recovery ventilators.

Bill,  I didn't know you were with Eco Steward!  Wow.

I agree, Active Rain is really a great place to network and learn about these topics.  Congrats on the Magazine and please let us know when the HGTV will air.

Thanks Stephanie. Yes, Janeanne is my Broker in Charge. As you might surmise we usually have some lively staff meetings on Tuesday.

The House Hunters will not be on till spring. They have to wait and do the 3 month later this is what the house now looks like scenes.

Bill - I'm in agreement that this trend is just starting and will continue. In 10 years I believe all homeowners will require it! When people see how good green building is for their health & wealth they will demand it more and more. Your Eco Steward team has done a great job! All of you should be very proud!

Bill,

You mentioned the press that "Green" has recieved from Realtor magazine and the Home and Garden Network.  Green is everywhere and is continuing to be seen mainstream thanks to some big supporters.  Go check out the blog I wrote on "What's the Big Deal About Green" (http://activerain.com/blogsview/270216/What-is-the-Big).  It is really pretty cool to see what's going on in the industry.

P.S. I was watching Shrek 3 with the kids and they even had a "Green" deal in the extras.  I'll be writing a blog on that one too!

Bill,

AR sure has gone mainstream as different organizations find members here for interviews and opinions in their particular field. It's especially uplifting to see that Green Building issues are getting their share of the limelight, as the public needs to become more aware of its importance.

Esko:

That different organizations can find us I think is a credit to all the wonderful contributors in AR as well as AR's ability to be so very Google Search Engine friendly. I think the public really is starting to get the message that green building and products are not on the fringe like they have been in the not so distant past.

Bill,

Thanks for your post.  Earthadvantage is a great website for Green certification and information here in the Northwest.  We are starting to see a lot of new green homes going up lately, and I hope the trend continues.
