Believe it or not I am enjoying the “much needed” Las Vegas rain. Hopefully it isn’t a newsflash to anyone we have been in a drought for around a decade. The Las Vegas Sun is reporting that “western slope snowpack is 145% of normal” right now. Snowpack is more important than the rain itself which has only raised Lake Mead’s level’s 2/10 of an inch (it’s down 130 feet), according to the Las Vegas Sun. Aside from that I thought that stores would be dead Monday morning but it seemed to have brought out shoppers in all places I was at: Target (Flamingo/Hualapai), Ulta (Arroyo) & Bed, Bath & Beyond (Arroyo). That’s also great news for our pitiful economy I suppose! According to weather.gov’s map: my area has received 3-4 inches since Saturday (my pool is filled to the brim and we need a respite so we don’t have to drain a couple of inches of it!) Sprinklers are off and unless we have an unusual hot spell between now and the new year they won’t go on until the first week of January! Las Vegas isn’t exactly equipped with storm sewers (like the midwest) and there are large pools of water – especially in and around the newer areas like Mountain’s Edge. We also don’t have lakes or creeks (pronounced “cricks” alright?) We have detention basins and washes (pronounced “warsh”!) You rarely see water in those washes or basins. Here is a photo I took of the detention basin at Durango & Russell today: It has been a little rough getting around for BPOs this week with cars not seeing big puddles and hydroplaning but the up side is that no one is outside wondering why I am taking a photo of their house And one more thing that I can be thankful for: IT AIN’T SNOW! ;)
WOW...it is still raining out there? You and man pal should have just about every single indoor chore taken care of by now. Time to put your feet up and have a glass of wine together!
Gary: Yes I got made fun of profusely after I moved down here. Now I don't do wash anymore, I do laundry ;)
Russell: Slot machine 911 is postponing man pal's arrival home and I have 10 dozen cookies to put frosting on (not exaggerating!) Wine can happen tomorrow night ;)
LOL. Wish I could leapfrog to spring and avoidthe upcoming snow.
Glad you've got some rain...now go out and sing.
My step mom says "warsh clorth". It's hilarious. I usually bring it up during holiday gatherings.
Hello Renee and I can not believe all the rain we have had in the last few days, rain is always god for the desert. I am hoping though that this rain let's up by the weekend because VB has quite a few relatives rolling into Vegas for Christmas & New Years ... ;)
Vegas Bob
Renee, dear, wine should never be put aside for the frosting of cookies. They are a natural combo. The only thing wine doesn't really go with is poaching eggs at 7 am.
You crack me up about the problems with the rain. It's been so darn cold here that my little dog now secretly poops in the basement rather than going outside. He's a westie and can tolerate anything over about 6 degrees, so you know it's cold. He's going to be a lawn ornament soon if this keeps up.
Debbie: I am singing Annie on WP and Winnie the Pooh here on AR. Thanks to me being a teenager when my sisters were born those songs are embedded in my brain!
Eric: I don't know why I say that that way. I get made fun of plenty ya hear!
Robert: Not only that but Charleston is going to be a breathtaking site. There is an avalanche warning up there right now!!!!!!!!
Leslie: Okayyyyyyyyy but if I am not on my "A game" tomorrow you will be on my "list" LOL
Jane: Yea you guys are 4x worse. I felt bad about you having to go out for your inspection. I haven't had to go to far but the roads have been nasty.
I remember your snow pictures/video last year! Now it's rain. I bet your pool is filling up.
Whenever it rains in the winter up north we worry it will wash the snow pack away! We have been getting a little of both this week but nothing extreme like your area. I hope your will be able to get those BPO's and all your shopping finished up this week.
Drive safely and have a wonderful holiday!
Renee - It was pouring here the other day and my first thought was it'll be a great time to go shopping...NOPE, the stores were packed. I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like going out in the rain.
Hi Renee...Wow that's a lot of Rain, maybe Lake Mead will Fill up...When does a girl need an excuse to go shopping...:O))
The weather is finally on the way for us tomorrow, not sure yet if it will be rain or snow, the temp will be right on the border.
Maybe you'll get to see that green stuff on your yard after all. .
GRASS!
Just stopping by to wish you a Merry Christmas. .
Renee, We haven't had any rain...or snow...here yet. Keep dry, have some cookies and ENJOY!
Yikes that sucks Renee. Too bad you could not have the white stuff for Christmas. I know that would be a tall order:)
Renee: I can't imagine the amount of rain you guys are getting. I saw pictures of Mesquite and that looks like a disaster. I hope all goes well and it stops soon.
Happy Holidays!
Renee-I loved all the rain we got! It's such a nice change, but it did get a little scary for a day or two. I think we're supposed to dry out for the next few days now. Happy Holidays!
I love it Renee! We are the same here in Phoenix...the excitment for rain brings everyone out of the wood works! :)
Happy Holidays!
