Spending Part of My Winter Writing my Mystery ... in Ocean City, New Jersey

Yes, I know it may be difficult to believe that this blogger's writing style will result in a full-blown mystery at some time in the future ... but the announcement is correct.  I've been working on the draft, off-and-on, for a year.  But the critical point here must be "off-and-on" ... because I now move out of that status into a much more organized fashion.  Look out.

I will tend to remain somewhat quiet about the whole thing except to say that the main character will be a real estate agent located in a shore community in South Jersey.  He has a partner who tends to get him involved with a variety of interesting characters.  He is a somewhat down-and-out widower who hasn't completely come to terms with what has happened to his wife and daughter.  And, I hope, the somewhat unusual and maybe bizarre situation that occurs in this initial mystery leads not only to a solution to the crime, but also some help to the lead character too.

Wish me well ... I'm still a real estate agent working here in Ocean City.  My plan is to write very early in the morning on a daily basis.  I'll keep you posted, on occasions, regarding my organizational style and seriousness of purpose.  But alas, you will have to wait to read the book.

If you have a good lead for me regarding an agent (for my book .... remember, I'm the other agent for real estate), please let me know.                          dap

Hi Dustin - Best of luck with your writing. I've toyed, not very seriously, with an idea for a novel for years. I think you're right to change over to a regular writing time every day. Everything I've read (and I read a lot!) indicates that this is how to get the story done.

When you're far enough along, you might consider going to a writer's convention. A friend of mine has gathered quite a bit of information at these (she's an aspiring romance writer). There are usually some agent reps on hand as well. Conventions are usual by genre, so there is most likely one or more for mystery writers.

Judy,    Some great advice ... most appreciated.  I'm hoping I may get more including a connection for an agent ... Happy Holidays and a great New Year 2011.    Sincerely,      Dustin
