Laughing at the drunks. This time of year, some people may be inclined to celebrate more than usual.

There was a time when laughing at someone who was drunk was acceptable. Foster Brooks made a career out of pretending to be drunk. It was always a good laugh.

We have come a long way from those days. Some may still find it humerous to see their friend in a state that is out of the ordinary but it isn't funny when that person decides to drive.

We have all heard the different slogans------

don't drink and drive

You drink. You drive. You  lose.

Arrive alive. Don't drink and drive

Over the limit. Under arrest.

In Michigan the blood alcohol limit is .08. Other states have limits that may be more or less. We should all be aware of what our personal limit is. We can have a good time without being drunk and saying "what happened, I don't remember".  Alternate alcoholic drinks with water.

Be responsible, have a designated driver. If you don't have one, hire one. There are a lot of companies available to service you. Consider the cost. Drunk driving offenses and penalties can costs thousands of dollars and possible lose of your license, vehicle or even your job. Would you pay someone $40.00, $50.00 or even $100.00 to be home safe? Or would you rather say "I'm fine, I can drive myself" and risk the chance of injury to you or someone else.

Here is a link to the National Directory of Designated Drivers.

Enjoy the holidays and the life you have............

alot of people do not want to leave their cars behind.  in miami there is a company where a guy rides a small foldable moped to you, puts his moped in your trunk, and drives you and your car home, then gets on his moped and moves on.  pretty reasonable priced too!

Really great advise, I hope people will drink responsible. Lives can be forever changed or lost by drinking and driving.

You are so right Craig....no one is laughing at the 24 yr. old (I think) that just got sentenced to 51 years to life in the death of the Cal. ball player and two others for being a drunk driver......learn people....learn

James, a service like that is invaluable.

Gay, these old skits are always funny, but the end result of doing the wrong thing is no laughing matter.

Cynthia, as we get older we become more educated.

Dennis, one bad decision lasts a lifetime.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all......

Hey Craig,

That was hilarious. That was a great way to bring in the Christmas holiday and I sure hope I don't sound like this in the next couple of days after some Holiday wine. Have a spirit on me! Thanks again.

Craig, no doubt things have changed over the years.  Here in Michigan they now have the double the limit law (I'm sure you are aware) and no good outcome can come out of driving drunk.

Al & Peggy, thank you for the reblog. Yes, friends don't let friends drink and drive is another good example of supporting each other.

Bob, the laws HAVE changed alot. I was 18 and legal a looong time ago. We need to continue to educate.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL..........

Craig, At our High School, a smashed up car sat on the lawn for the past two weeks. It's message said "Don't Drink and Drive." The kids looked at what was left of this sporty highly desired car, and the rest was left to them to decipher.

Ellen, nothing like a little dose of reality. Some people need to "see" and not just hear about it.

Deborah, continued education..........

Definitely an important reminder for this time of year.  I think we have all been touched by this in one way or another.

Craig, I do remember when these shows were popular. We have pretty strict enforcement here. Happy New Year to you!

The social awareness of this issue has changed dramatically over the years.  Now we all know that not only shouldn't we drink and drive, we should make every effort to prevent anyone we know shouldn't be driving from driving...

Debra, even with constant reminders, it's obvious some people still don't get it. The "it won't happen to me" mentality.

Connie, strict enforcement is creating more awareness. We behave differently when we think someone is watching.

Chris, we all feel a sense of responsibilty when we see someone that needs a little reminder.
