One of my favorite desserts in the summer (well, all year, actually) is ice cream. And I have had the gustatory pleasure of enjoying ice cream at many fine places. Kimball's, back in Littleton/Westford, MA was THE favorite of all time, but since I now live here in Carlsbad, finding an alternative was essential (since I don't always want to make my own). Cold Stone Creamery is the best I have found here in South Carlsbad. Located at The Forum, and upscale shopping mall off El Camino Real on Calle Barcelona, this place seems to be the most popular ice cream place in this part of town (I am working in discovering some other places to have some variety).
Cold Stone Creamery is a chain (you can own a franchise if you want), so the offerings are creative and the same everywhere. There is a good selection of flavors, a menu of their creations (or create your own, in 3 sizes - the Love It [largest] size is my favorite), and a lively crew of dippers that will sing when they are given a tip.
This is a great place to know about, and you can shop at The Forum before or after. And, coincidentally, there is a fabulous chocolatier next door, Chuao. It doesn't get much better. I suppose you shouldn't buy a home based on proximity to the local ice cream parlor or chocolatier, but it's not a bad benefit, is it?
