Recipe - Turkey A La King With Wine Sauce

By
Real Estate Agent

For those looking for an idea to use any leftover holiday turkey on hand, here's a suggestion.  It's my family favorite version of Turkey A La King.  Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 cup chopped cooked turkey
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¾ cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 - 15 oz can chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream  or sour cream
  • 1/3 cup sherry or white wine
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • ¼ cup diced red bell pepper
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions - In a large skillet melt butter over medium low heat.  When butter becomes golden brown, saute' mushrooms until tender. Stir in flour until smooth. Stir in chicken broth slowly, and cook until slightly thickened.  Add in sherry or white wine.  Stir in heavy cream or sour cream, turkey, peas and red bell pepper. Reduce heat to low, and cook until thickened.  Add salt and pepper.

Serve with Biscuits or Mashed Potatoes!

Pat - I like this recipe, because I generally have all the ingredients on hand.  It's easy and straightforward.  You can also vary it a bit if you like.

Jeff and Heather - My family seems to like it when I use leftover turkey this way.

Sandy - This is one of my favorite ways to use leftover turkey.  It's even more perfect if it is raining cats and dogs outside:-)  I hope you are enjoying wonderful holidays.

Deborah - The wine adds a little more sophistication to the taste.

Joan - I posted this recipe at this time because I suspected there were folks out there wondering what to do with all their leftover turkey.  I hope you had a great day yesterday.

Richard - I've felt continually stuffed for three days now.  I have one more day of feasting to go, and then it is off the gym for some serious work.
