Great list of questions and I loved the buyers answers!!!!
Maybe the first time homebuyers will make this decision in 2011.

This year's National Association of Realtors national convention was held in New Orleans in November. Vicki Cox Golder's platform was HOME OWNERSHIP. After returning to Denver, I sent emails to all my first time home buyers in the past two years (I didn't have too many), and asked them a few key questions to share in my next newsletter!
Some questions I asked were -
~ Why did you want to buy versus continuing to rent?
~ What was your primary reason for buying?
~ What is the BEST part of home ownership?
~ What was the best part of this transaction, and what was the worst?
~ Do you feel different being a homeowner?
I received only one letter back, and here was their response. (I cut and pasted, since there were other comments in this note as well.)
Thank you for everything you did for us to help get us into our first home! We just love it!
To answer your questions,
1. As you remember, we lived with friends, so needed to get into our own place.
2. The interest rate was very affordable, and we felt we could buy a property for the same price per month as renting. We had saved enough for a down payment, and was ready to be a homeowner.
3. We love owning our own home, and now can paint walls, have a pet and replace appliances, without consent from the landlord.
4. The best part was getting the keys at closing. The worst was sending endless paperwork to the lender to get the loan.
5. We feel we are now adults, have our place, getting married soon, and a place we can call our own.
Thank you for all you did!
The major talking point in New Orleans when talking about HOME OWNERSHIP, was the success that most homeowners (especially first time buyers) felt by owning their own home. My clients pretty much said that as well.
HOME
OWNERSHIP
MATTERSStudies show that home ownership has a significant positive impact on net worth, educational achievement, civic participation, health and overall qualify of life. That's why, for more than 100 years, Realtors have helped people find their piece of the American Dream.
Is it time to buy YOUR FIRST HOME?
