A Funny Christmas Present......An Accepted Offer! Seriously

By
Real Estate Agent with Karen Parsons-Fiddler, Broker 949-510-2395 BRE# 01494165

All true real estate junkies will understand this....but after the presents, and cookies and prime rib, I sneaked away from the party to check my email.....in the laundry room. Completely obsessive of me.

I would like to say there was a reason beyond real estate....but there really wasn't. I had been cooking all day and I had not checked email since noon....it was 7pm. So, you understand?

To my surprise, in my inbox was an executed copy of an offer we had written earlier that week. I was annoyed about this situation any way. The agent had not returned any of my phone calls nor emails and I wasn't really sure that the offer had been received at all.

The email was quite apologetic, turns out the agent is the seller's sister and they had all been gone last week at a funeral...the sudden passing of their father.

The offer was very fair and needed. They were both moving to the East Coast to be nearer their mother and finances were very tight. The sale of the home was important and they had had no offers. My buyers likewise had been looking for a long time...and this home was perfect. It was one street away from the buyer's sister. It was a perfect situation.

I had the joy of picking up the phone to call my search-weary buyers and tell them they had a home! I also was able to reach the agent, who was very nice and excited.

Merry Christmas to all!

Thanks for sharing! That was a great present for everyone involved. And now you know why that agent didn't stay in touch with you.

I think there may be a lesson in that for those of us who become impatient (that includes me, when copywriting clients don't get back to me quickly.)

Sometimes there really are valid reasons why people aren't staying in touch.

Congratulations on getting you offer accepted and what an even better gift you can give your buyers than to tell them that that house has been accepted. My heart definately goes out to the listing agent and her sister, I just lost my dad this past summer and I can definately relate to what they are going through..

But like you, I am a junkie myself.. I can only go so long without checking my email before I start having withdrawls..

Glad you had a great Christmas.

What a great story, for so many reasons: 1. Helps us all feel abnormally normal when we check our emails on Christmas day; 2. Celebrates the core of why we do what we do; 3. Shows that, as Marte says, often there are valid reasons for why people don't get back to us as quickly as we'd like - in your case, the agent was willing to share the reasons why (it's not always like this, sometimes we just need to extend the benefit of the doubt); and 4. You've just gotta love a happy ending!

Wow, Karen, you've gotta love that! I'm glad that the situation was such as it was, nothing deliberate about the seller not getting back to you, but needing to take care of a family tragedy that involved both the seller and the agent. Talk about a Christmas gift!

What a great story, Karen!  I love it when it's a win-win situation for everyone involved.  And, i had to laugh at you checking your email in the laundry room - I was on a family ski vacation in Colorado, and found myself checking my email in the bathroom to avoid the glares from my family!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

What a great present Karen!  And I understand, I had to take a look at my Blackberry every once in a while AND had to make a phone call.  I had clients who saw a home on the 23rd & really liked it & wanted to go back today.  But, due to the blizzard we are having, it had to be postponed & I had to make a phone call.

Karen -- even though it took a while it appears to be a WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN.  Now, this is quite a nice Christmas (hmm, Miracle?).  Congratulations and now onto a closed transaction in 2011.
