WHAT IS YOUR CHRISTMAS TRADITION?

By
Real Estate Agent with David Tracy Real Estate #555994

In about 1997 my father in law.... John Frank Sutton had his first notable heart attack. It was just before Christmas and he was scheduled to come out of the hospital the day before Christmas and he needed to be resting most of the time.

This meant that he would not be cooking the Christmas Turkey and Ham...my mother in law would help and so would we, but it would worry him that we all had to do so much.

So I stepped forward and suggested since we had all had our fair share of Turkey and Ham since Thanks Giving why not just have sandwiches for Christmas Dinner...

Being the OutLaw the room went quite...all heads turned to me with eyebrows raised high up on forehead and near the hair lines....

WAIT...WAIT I said I mean like deli sandwiches with different slices of meats and cheeses and a large variety of specialty breads....

I think the word cheese did the trick...since Cheese is certainly a Sutton family tradition no matter what time of year.

In any case it was a hit and we as a family decided to do just that and have continued to have specialty sandwiches each year for Christmas Dinner....

John Frank Sutton went on to be with the Lord in 1999.... but we have kept on the tradition of the Sandwiches for Christmas and I have carried his love for decorating Christmas Trees.

Oh and we have quite the sweet tooth....the kitchen table is heavy laden with pies, brownies, cookies of all types, candy and too much to type out here.

Damn that looks good. I absolutely love your idea and think that is so cool that you keep the tradition going. I grow tired of working my butt off cooking for 6 hours at Christmas. I'm gonna see if we can pull this off next year. To hell with turkey and potatoes.

Sussie...

We had a holiday Hot dog party for our friends a few weeks ago. We had quality dogs and every imaginable topping and everyone really enjoyed it!

Sussie,

Anything that can be done to reduce the amount of work and stress is appreciated. I'm all in for sandwiches.

Valerie! That is a great idea! I know some really primo restaurants in Houston and it would be awesome to have a Christmas meal catered by one of them!

I was telling my husband that I was kind of tired of sandwiches for Christmas dinner but still was not ready for the hours and hours of cooking.

And I know we will spend the same kind of money if we just cater a meal!

Sussie, As long as you are with the people that you love, I don't think the menu matters!  It sounds like a lovely tradition to me:)  Are you near Dallas?  I am attending a Buffini Turning Point, in Dallas, this coming February.  I am excited to visit the Lone Star State:)

I like that idea.  I bet the cook likes it too.  I'm about ready to go on a soup diet for a month.

Sussie, that sounds like a great idea, and no one would be spending the day in the kitchen, less stress!

So true Joan! I love to cook...when I cook. But sometimes I too want to be entertained instead of doing the entertaining.

We changed our tradition this year and had Mexican food. It was the easiest Christmas dinner I have ever cooked for a crowd....and it was delicious!
